Ben-Gal was repri- manded by Defense Minis- ter Ezer Weizman after he was quoted as telling a group of Knesset members that the Arabs of the Galilee were "a cancer in the body of the nation" and were wait- ing for the moment "when they can screw us." A Davar correspondent, who recorded the general's comments, backed Ben- Gal's claim that he had not used the word "cancer" but had said that the neglect of the Golan Heights is a malady in Israel's body. Ben-Gal said he did not mean to link this comment with the Galilee Arabs. Defense Ministry sources said that Weiz- man, after reprimanding Ben-Gal, made it clear that the Galilee Arabs are Israeli citizens and no one has a right to cast doubts on them. Ben-Gal had also been quoted as tel.- ling the MKs that there was no more room on the Golan for additional Jewish set- tlements. The Regional Council of Jewish Settlements in the Galilee had earlier issued a statement defending Ben- Gal. "What the general is alleged to have said may have been said in a rough way, but in essence they are true," the council said. The settlers, who had cut the barbed-wire separating their settlement on an army base from the land which is tilled by Arabs, agreed to leave after National Reli- gious Party MK Haim Druckman and an official of the Agriculture Ministry suggested the settlers send a delegation to Jerusalem to discuss the need for more JEWELERS gia (7 ) , //7, (e 7/.)/ - `A VIV' \e/ cSinct (.14/ Gicsals LAWRENCE M. The decision came as the army was moving into the seized land on which the settlers had put up several mobile homes. Kedumim was set up following the repeated Gush Emunim attempts to settle near Nablus dur- ing the Rabin govern- ment. At first, it was designated as merely an adjunct to an army camp in the area and was placed within the army camp perimeter. Since then it has grown and flourished, and, while still within the perimeter, it is now plainly in need of room for expansion. The government and the World Zionist Organization settlement department, however, had arranged for Kedumim to take over the rest of the army camp, which is soon to be vacated by the military. Govern- ment and WZO officials con- tend that this would provide Kedumim, which now has some 100 families, with ample land for all future needs. The settlers, however, are dissatisfied with this offer. They argue that the army camp lands earmarked for their expansion are low- lying while they have their hearts set on the surround- ing hillsides. The hillsides are owned either by local Arab vil- lagers or by absent Arabs who have leased them to local people, while the army camp lands are state- owned. Emunim rejects any distinction between the various categories of land-ownership and con- tends that the require- ments of the West Bank Jewish settlements should take priority, where necessary, over local Arab ownership or usage rights with the owners or users receiv- ing adequate cash com- pensation or alternative land elsewhere. Sunday's takeover was in conjunction with a Gush campaign to force the gov- ernment to enact legislation allowing the takeover of Arab land in Judea and Samaria for Jewish settle- ments. Survivors Lunge at Lawyer Defending Arab Terrorists TEL AVIV — Survivors of an Arab terrorist mas- sacre lunged at an Israeli lawyer defending two Palestinians charged with the killings in a military court on Sunday. The courtroom in Rehovot was charged with tension as survivors described how Palestinian terrorists, who on March 11 of last year landed on the coast from Lebanon, hijacked a bus on the Haifa-Tel Aviv highway and went on a two-hour shooting rampage. Thirty-four Israelis were killed and 72 injured, and nine terrorists were killed. The prisoners, Khaled Hussein, 22 years old, and Hussein Fiad, 19, were the only members of the band who survived. When the prisoners entered the courtroom on Sunday, the older one's face was bruised and the younger man had his left "Your Office Boy" - I • • • • • • ' arm in a plaster cast. They whispered to their attorney, Mrs. Leah Tsemel, who then told the court her clients had complained of a beating from wardens. The presiding judge, Col. Sharon Alpering, ordered the commissioner of prisons to investigate the com- plaint. A hint to the wise is suffi- cient. DR. STANN GROUP? DISCO NORTH?
