Vineyards is unrecogniz- able now, so much different . . . and prettier . . . The dinginess and dark lighting are gone as padded wall sec- tions, drapes hanging from the ceiling, booths with cir- cular glass dividers that fold down for large parties . . . chandeliers from the old Michigan Palace and Park Shelton Hotel . . . among so many other new features . . do much to enhance the wonderful Vineyards new look. Coco's was formerly the downstairs Bastille Room, a dreary holding area for persons waiting to go into the Vineyards ... Now it is an entity of itself ... its own kind of restaurant ... for infor- mal and seafood dining ... plus assorted sand- wiches including five different hamburgers, three kinds of salads, an oyster bar and about four a la carte seafood dinners. Mirrored walls, stucco ceiling, indirect neon light- ing, tables and beautiful gaslight-type chandeliers atop each booth . . . People at Coco's enjoy listening to 21-year-old Pierre Fracalanza at the piano bar Monday through Saturday . . . His soft pleasant voice is easy listening. I had dinner at the new Vineyards with Richard and wife Laura . . . Their year-old-daughter Gab- rielle was born Aug. 8 . . . on the 38th anniversary of his parents, Anne and Don Roberts . . . Fine, efficient waitress Carolyn Ritter brought me a wonderful seafood bisque . . . and a de- licious Lemon Sole in cheese sauce, topped with a shrimp and surrounded by mashed potatoes . . . a very elegant dish. And so a new "Trio" comes to Southfield . . . at least with three different names in the same building . . . where you can go from any of the three rooms to another without leaving the site. The people associated with Vineyards, Coco's and Benny's are on a winning team. JUST A GOOD SOUND neighborhood operation .. . That's all Charlie and Frank Pappas are in- terested in at their Rialto Cafe on Woodward and Nine Mile . . . Nothing fancy . . . very moderate prices and good service .. . Ever have a Greek salad with Italian dressing? .. . Try it at Rialto. NEW CONCEPT and new name will soon be in focus for Sally Dumas, bosslady of the Landmark Restaurant in the Delta Dental Bldg.
