According to Bernard Stein, Chatham -president, all 45 Detroit-area Chatham stores should have the guide system by early this month. Diet Guide MAP (menu assistance planning) is a programmed effort aimed at nutrition education in the supermarket. Using a color-coded grocery shelf tag system, customers will be able to locate three food categories that may help satisfy special dietary con- cerns: calorie-controlled, cholestrol-controlled and no-sodium-added foods. "People are far more interested in nutrition today than they were a few years ago," said Stein in announcing the new program. "They are spe- cially concerned about maintaining correct weight, avoiding foods high in cholesterol and not using too much salt." "Diet Guide will make shopping easier by identify- ing all food products that fit within the new system, in- cluding products specifi- cally developed for dieting. Diet Guide will also allow more varied menu planning by creating a greater awareness of the large selection of foods available in each of the three diet categories." Stein said that as nutri- tional labeling is added to new and existing food prod- ucts within each category, Chatham would add them to Diet Guide. He also em- phasized that Diet Guide was not meant to serve as a recommended food list for special diets. "Each person should consult his or her doctor of dietitian as to the correct menu for individual dietary needs," he said. chairmen; Mrs. Ira G.
