The Best of Everything

PEABODY'S on south-
west corner of Woodward
and Maple is in its fourth
year as a restaurant . . . But
a lot of the building is much
older.
Woodward was a dirt road
when Peabody's Saw Mill
and Food Store opened in
the early 1800s . . . In 1870,
it was Peabody's General
Store . . . then Peabody's
Grocery Store, and today
the very popular and suc-
cessful restaurant people
enjoy visiting.
The old, rustic decor is
still there . . . with pictures
of yesteryears . . . heavy
wooden beams . . . and two-
stories high, one a hay-loft-
like setting.
Owned by very per-
sonable and well-liked
Jim Peabody, it is much
like a large old far-
mhouse.
Dimpled waitress Linda
Banister waited on our
party and is indicative of
the kind of service Jim
wants at his place . . . very
courteous, ,efficient and
most pleasant.
First came a small onion
bread . . . cold and crispy
salad . . . and then the
largest slab of ribs I've seen
for $6.95 . . . So big that it
was one of the few times I
couldn't eat the whole
thing.
We were there following
the Paul Anka concert at
Pine Knob . . . a Thursday
night, and like all other
evenings, Peabody's had a
lot of customers.
I like Peabody's warmth
and comfortable surround-
ings.
SULTAN'S TABLE,
Southfield and 10 Mile, has
closed its doors . . . Also the
short-lived Rosebuds
Lounge on Telegraph .. .
Louie Marr orchestra that
played there is at Kansas
City Steak House.
NOW APPEARING at
db's in Hyatt Regeircy,
Dearborn, is a young man
who first made his mark
here in Detroit . . . Bob An-
derson . . . At that time, I
liked the way Bob sang .. .
his presentation too.
He left to live in Las
Vegas . . . and from the
Aladdin has been at the
Dunes Hotel a year-and-a-
half.
Bob's act has changed we
understand . . . he's now
also a singing impressionist
. . . Certainly I'll be seeing
Bob at db's, and the thought
of him doing singing im-
pressions of "name" stars
sort of takes me aback. I al-
ways thought Bob was a lot
better than most of them.
I guess the way to star-
dom is not always a direct
route ... Maybe this is
only a slight detour ...
Then again, Bob might
well be one of the very
few, and I do mean very
few, good singing im-
pressionists ... Doing
voices alone is one thing
... but mimicing a voice
throughout songs is an-
other ... It's extremely
difficult unless restricted
solely to a few songsters

... and Bob has little re-
striction.
It'll be interesting seeing
him at db's . . . accompanied
by all ex-DetroiterS who'll
sit in with the regular
Johnny Trudell Band . . .
Billy Stevenson, accom-
