0 34 Friday, July 21, 1919 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS ENTERTAINMENT? Seymour Schwartz Wider Support Is Suggested to Lower Day School Tuition For have to justify the existence of Detroit's three such in- stitutions of Jewish learn- ing, combined with a fine program of secular studies. I can disagree with Mr. Feinberg only when he limits the funding of these schools "to the entire Jewish community, through the Jewish Federa- tion." The parents who are will- ing to send their children to such schools of intensive education must assume the initiative in bringing before the Jewish community the fact that they resent being burdened by high tuition costs for this commitment to Jewish survival which they have made on behalf of their children. The Jewish News of Dec. 1, 1978, carried an article in which Rabbi Arthur-Hertzberg called for free day school edu- cation as a means for Jewish survival. While I agree with his sugges- tion, I am prepared at this time to request of day school parents that they agree that tuition per child be kept at a reduced rate. Obviously, the cost of education is much higher than any reduced rate. But intensive Jewish education must become a priority item for all Jewish organizations Editor, The Jewish News: The letter from Mr. Charles E. Feinberg in your issue of July 6, addressed it self quite properly to the concerns for Hebrew day school tuition.
