3 Days in Egypt
for Shimon Peres

TEL AVIV (JTA) —
Labor Party Chairman
Shimon Peres visited Egypt
for three days this week,
meeting President Anwar
Sadat and other Egyptian
officials.
It was the first trip to
Egypt by the Israeli opposi-
tion leader. He told report-
ers that he visited Premier
Menahem Begin at Hadas-
sah Hospital Monday and
was asked by Begin to re-
port on the state of his
health to Sadat, who had
inquired about it.
He also said he would ex-
jain to the Egyptian leader
the Labor Party's views of
the Israeli-Egyptian peace
treaty and its hopes for the
speedy normalization of re-
lations between the two
countries.
A report from Cairo said
Egyptian Defense Minister
Kamel Hassan Ali will go to
Haifa next week to meet
with Israeli Defense Minis-
ter Ezer Weizman for
further discussions of joint
security matters.

TEL AVIV (JTA) — An
explosive device discovered
on a crowded beach in
Natanya last Saturday
morning was dismantled by
police sappers before it
could detonate. A man
noticed the device concealed
in a cigarette case placed in
the sand and nottfied the
lifeguards. The lifeguards
warned the thousands of
bathers -on the beach to
clear the area as police were
called in to dismantle the
device.

Benjamin Gottesman, a
member of the board of
Yeshiva University since
1925, died July 18 at age 81.
His father, Mendel, was
one of the founders of the
Rabbi Isaac Elchanan
Theological Seminary, a
predecessor of Yeshiva
University and now one of
its schwls,
Benjaniin Gottesman and
his family . were principal
supporters of the univer-
sity's library system and
endowed the university's
central library, the Mendel
Gottesman Library, in
1969.

Andre Narboni
of Jewish Agency

NEW YORK — Andre
Narboni, the first Sephardi •
to become a full member of
the Jewish Agency Execu-
tive, died last week in Tel
Aviv at age 62.
Narboni was elected a
member of the Jewish
Agency Executive in 1965.
He became head of the
,Sephardi and Oriental
Diaspora Department when
it was founded in 1972.
Born in Algeria, trained
as a lawyer, Narboni im-
migrated to Israel in 1962
after playing an active role
in the Algerian Zionist Fed-
eration.
