By ALLEN A. WARSEN
"The History of the SS"
(Wvid McKay Co.) by G.S.
Graber explores the growth,
activities, the ideological
and political foundations of
the Schutz-staffel.
In addition, it sheds light
on the SS leaders, the Nazi
occupation of Europe, the
Kristallnacht and "The Pro-
tocols of the Elders Of Zion."
- "The Protocols," accord-
ing to the author, have their
roots in the novel "Biaritz,"
written in 1868 by the Ger-
man journalist Hermann
Goedsche under the nom de
plume Sir John Retcliffe.
More specifically, "The
Protocols" have their
genesis in the novel's
,. chapter "In the Jewish
Cemetery in Prague," the
locus of a secret; noctur-
nal meeting described as
follows:
"At 11 o'clock the cemet-
ery gates creak open, there
are sounds of clothes rustl-
ing, and suddenly a white
figure is seen making its
way toward one of the
tombstones. It kneels,
touches the tombstone three
times with its forehead, and
begins to pray. Gradually it
is joined by 12 other figures,
all of whom perform tke
same ritual. By midnight
all are assembled. The clock
strikes and a blue flame il-
luminates the 13 figures.
"The Devil, speaking
from the depth of the grave
around which they are a,S-
sernbled, says: 'I greet you,
heads of the 12 tribes of Is-
rael.' The men then give an
account of their activities in
the preceding century, that
is to say, since their last
meeting.
"The head of the tribe of
Levi is pleased to announce
that Israel is now able to
raise its head again, thanks
