According to the 46 par- ticipants of the Third Inter- national Conference of Friendship Leagues with Israel, held in Jerusalem last month, the answer is everything from a sincere admiration for the Israeli people. to a belief that Is- rael's survival is vital to the interests of democratic na- tions everywhere. The Israel Friendship League, 90 percent of whose members are not Jewish, is a non-profit Program Will Promote American Aliya WZO • ALL SALES FINAL • ALTERATIONS EXTRA SUITS SPORT_COATS • Le Baron • Rubin Bros. • Louis Roth • Pheonix • Lanvin • Van Gils NOW ONLY 75.00 WERE 150.00 NOW ONLY 87.50 WERE 175.00 NOW ONLY 100.00 WERE 200.00 NOW ONLY 112.50 WERE 225.00 NOW ONLY 125.00 WERE 250.00 ALL I/2 PRICE WERE 275.00 & UP • Adolfo • Pheonix • Lanvin • Rubin Bros. • Louis Roth • Le Baron NOW ONLY 42.50 WERE 85.00 NOW ONLY 4L50 WERE 95.00 NOW ONLY 50.00 WERE 100.00 NOW ONLY 75.00 WERE 150.00 NOW ONLY 100.00 WERE 200.00 1/2 PRICE WERE 250.00 & UP DRESS SLACKS DRESS & SPORT SHIRTS • Jaymar • Bensol • Nino Curritti • St. Piel • Louis Raphael WERE 20.00 WERE 25.00 WERE 27.50 WERE 30.00 WERE 50.00 WERE 50.00 & UP NOW- ONLY 10.00 NOW ONLY 12.50 NOW ONLY 13.75 NOW ONLY 15.00 NOW ONLY 25.00 '/2 PRICE • Damon • Excellance • Enro • YSL • Roland • St. Piel • Allen Stuart NOW ONLY 7.50 WERE 15.00 NOW ONLY 9.00 WERE 18.00 NOW ONLY 10.00 WERE 20.00 NOW ONLY 11.25 WERE 22.50 NOW ONLY 12.50 WERE 25.00 NOW ONLY 13.75 WERE 27.50 NEW YORK (JTA) - The World Zionist Organ- ization is developing a new aliya program for the 1980s to attract American and Canadian Jews. Rabbi Charles Weinberg, adviser to Rafael Kotlowitz, head of the WZO's Immigra- tion and Absorption De- partment, was in New York to promote the new pro- gram, which is scheduled to be launched late this fall. Weinberg explained, in an interview with the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, that his group has the full support of the Is- raeli government which is cooperating with the WZO's development of a computer system. The computer will aid WZO's efforts to identify the needs in Israel. Weinberg was ques- tioned about the housing shortage facing new im- migrants in Israel. "By the time the program gets going, the housing prob- lems should be resolved," he said. He added that programs are being readied to provide rental housing for the new settlers by the mid 1980s. He also expressed concern that Soviet and Iranian JeWs coming to the U.S. are rapidly assimilated in the American culture. "Encouraged to come to the United States, these Jews would only add to the statis- tics of assimilation," he said. Weinberg was a rabbi in the Boston area for 25 years before moving to Israel 31/2 years ago. He is a former president of the Rabbinical Council of America, the Or- thodox rabbinic organiza- tion. organization established to enhance Israel's image abroad. Members, of different League branches "are not a homogeneous group. But they are all highly aware of developments in Israel, most are very intelligent, and all are agreed on the principle of the secure existence of the State. They comprise a professional cross-section which in- cludes Parliament mem- bers, trade union leaders academicians and others "The involvement these people in pro-Israel activities is no less than that of the Jews in their re- spective countries, accord- ing to Nacbum Schultz, di- rector of the World Zionist Organization's external re- lations department, under whose auspices the confer- ence was organized. One fact consistently emerged from Jewish Tele- graphic Agency interviews conducted with the dele- gates: Israel can count many friends among the world's non-Jewish popula- tion, regardlesg of the offi- cial positions assumed by the various governments. 01•111111• ■ ••111.
