Shulman Heads

A variety of summer ac-
tivities for families have
been planned, announces
Emily Bank, chairman of
the Women's Service Com-
mittee of the Flint Jewish
Community Council.
They include: Beach
party, July 8; Shabat dinner
in the park, July 13; Bower
Youth Theatre, July 26;
Impressions Five Museum
and Potter Park Zoo, Aug. 7;
Safetyville, Aug. 20; and
Kellogg's tour Aug. 29.

Leonard Shulman was
elected president of Temple
Beth El for the new program
year.
Other officers are: Sam
Reiter and Robert Silver-
man, vice presidents; Rhina
Griffel, secretary; and Louis
Epstein, treasurer.
Elected to the board were:
Leon Friedman, Peter
Gluck, Theodore Rosen-
berg, Barry Shapiro and
Mitchell Weiss. Milton
Panzer was elected to the
Beth El Memorial Park
Board for the term 1979-
1982.

Israel.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Ris-
kin. Parents of the brideg-
room are Mrs. Hy Urnovitz
and the late Mr. Urnovitz.
Marleen Helfman was
her sister's matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Jill Edel-
berg of Los Angeles, Calif.,
Kathleen Leist of San Diego
and Lynn Elliott.
The bridegroom's twin
brother, Sheldon, of South-
field, was best man. Ushers
were Randy Phillips, David
Helfman and Harold Freed.
Following a honeymoon
in Israel and England, the
couple will live in South-
field.

team won its first three
games of the season.

Raps Missionary

SEATTLE (JTA) — Op-
position to Christian mis-
sionary efforts on public
school grounds by evangeli-
cal groups was approved in
a policy statement by the
Church Council of Greater
Seattle.

The Lapeer Visiting
Committee of the Flint
Jewish Community Council
provided a Shavuot party
for the residents of the
Lapeer State Home re-
cently.
Esther Harris, chairman,
was assisted by Fannie Sor-
kin, Sarah Akner, Bessie
Ring, Lillian Shulman and

Flint, Obituaries

Charles Hourvitz, owner
of the Merchants Paper and
Twine Co. for more than 40
years, died June 14 at age
85.
Born in Lithuania, Mr.
Hourvitz lived in Flint since
1923. He was a founder and
member of Cong. Beth Is-
rael. He resided at 3710 Rue
Foret.
Mr. Hourvitz is survived
by his wife, Eva; two sons,
David and Ralph; a son-in-
law, Bernard Lovitky; a sis-
ter, Mrs. Goldie Sak of
Southfield; eight
grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
