JCCouncil Plans Response to Biased Article The Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan De- troit was informed of a col- umn published in the Oak- land Press containing anti-Jewish undertones. The article, written by Szabolcs Mesterhazy, car- ried the headline "short- Sighted Jews Endanger U.S." The article contains references to "some vocal, shoit-sided (sic)-influential Jews" leading the United States toward bankruptcy and "endangering the secu- rity of our nation." Mesterhazy also contends that the Soviet Union is seeking the support of American Jewry "to ad- vance its goal to conquer the controllable people of our globe and bury the uncon- trollable ones . ." And, he makes references to "the powerful Jewish lobby," "our Jewish Senators" and "those Jews who could be loyal only to a Jewish land." Council staff contacted the local chapters of the American Jewish Con- gress, the American Jewish Committee, the Anti-Defamation League of Bnai Brith and the Jewish Labor Committee to respond to the column. As a result, a meeting _with the Oakland Press publisher to discuss the ar- ticle is being proposed. The nominating committee will be chosen. Those who cannot attend should call' the Riches, 968-3172; or Henry Gutter, president, 543-2647. The unit will go to Meadow Brook Music Fes- tival 8:30 p.m. July 14 to hear the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, with Leonard Slatkin conducting, and Walter Klein at the piano. There is a charge. Reserva- tion deadline is June 30. Guests are welcome. A pic- nic will precede the concert at 6:30 p.m. on the Meadow Brook lawn. For informa- tion, call Dora Goldstein, 548-6291; Arlene Lader- man, 548-2808; or Linda Yellin, social services vice president, 545-4449. * * * Bnai Brith Meeting to Hear Solicitor General McCree Judge Wade H.
