cal research.
Tel Aviv University' pro-
fessor for the history of the
Jewry of Salonika and
Greece, Ankori took six stu-
dents on a research mission,
touring the towns and vil-
lages, of Greece to visit
existing Jewish com-
munities.
The goal of the chair is to
produce a comprehensive
geographical, historical
atlas of Greek Jewry from
the Middle Ages to modern
times, and thus to preserve
for history a vivid picture of
the life and activity of these
Jewish communities.
Today, Salonika's Jewish
population numbers ap-
proximately 1,200, and the
total Jewish population ap-
proximately 5,000.
