Danny Raskin's

LISTENING
POST

[

NITA SILBERSCHEIN
heard that hubby Joe was
going to give her a surprise
birthday party . . . so put it
on herself . . . About 70 girls
met at Chatham Market in
Tel-12 and went to Porter
Street Station where the
shindig was held . . . a
"stag" night for girls . . .
Only husbands there were
Joe taking pictures with
Jerry Robbins, Marge's
man.
There were three clowns,
a huge guy streaking in a
gorilla costume . . . a male
disco and modern dance
stripper with oodles and oo-
dles of Jockey shorts on .. .
but never taking off the last
one . . . and naughty comic
Mary Welch.
CONGRATULATIONS
... to Ben "B.B" Bolton on
birthday number 65.
THE RUNNERS CLUB
at Jewish Community Cen-
ter had so many members
attempting the Dexter to
Ann Arbor Road Race that
member Neil Schecter char-
tered a bus with a bat-
hroom.
Passing by Kensington
Golf Course at 6:30 a.m.,
Jerry Kalman said, "Look
at the crazy people playing
golf in this rain." . . . Dr.
Bob Brent replied, "Hah!
You got up at 4:30 a.m. to
catch a 6 a.m. bus to run 15
miles in the rain and you
call those people crazy!"
THERE'S EXCITE-
MENT at Detroit Lodge
Chapter 436, Bnai Brith .. .
It expects a sellout for the
group's annual theater
party, 8 p.m. June 28 at
Northland Theater . . . The
movie will be a premiere
showing of "Bloodline" from
Sidney. Sheldon's number
one best seller . . . starring
Audrey Hepburn, Omar
Sharif, Ben Gazzara, James
Mason and others.
Call ticket chairman
Mirle Peristein, 968-2896 or
chairman Florence
Karabenick, 543-5715 .. .
- Gussie Zuckerstein, 355-
4072, is president of Detroit
Lodge Chapter.
JERRY DAVIS HAD a
choice for his recent 60th
birthday . . . a party, or a
trip to Las Vegas paid for by
wife Lil, with their daugh-
ter, son and son-in-law .. .
Jerry chose Vegas . . . and
asked if the trip included
any gambling debts too.
FATHER'S DAY this
Sunday is also Attic Thea-
ter Auxiliary's auction in
the parking lot next to the
theater at 525 W. Lafayette
. . . with viewing at 3 and
the auction at 4 . . . Plus an-
tiques, art and new mer-
chandise, bids will also be
taken on unique offerings
like hay rides and camping
trips .. . . Admission is free
. . . with wine and cheese
available . . . For more in-
fo, call Ethel Levine, 544-
8836.
JOE CORNELL IS
spending much of his time

TEE RYAN ROABBOUSE

Youth Magazine Discusses
Halakha Interpretation

in California these days .. .
but he had to come to De-
troit to get into the movies.
Wife Kathy gave him a
surprise 50th birthday
party at the dance studio on
Greenfield and 10 Mile .. .
complete with video cam-
era, top records and his
friends wishing Joe well.
Too bad it was on such
short notice . . . only couple
of days . . . A lot of old
friends would have loved to
be with Joe on this occasion.
DR. MICHAEL J.
SHAENBOEN made it a
double header for parents
Sonia and Frank Shaen-
boen by graduating from
College of Osteopathic
Medicine and Surgery at
Des Moines, Iowa . . . Their
son Steve graduated from
there last year . . . It was a
double bill for Mike also,
since he recently married
Teri Matzura in New Jer-
sey.
to Eva
CONGRATS
and Al Perlmutter on their
45th wedding anniversary.
EVER SHUDDER when
you see kids take off their
glasses? . . . The way they
tear them off? . . . Makes no
difference anymore with the
kind of frames optician
Mark Igol has at Optical
Odyssey (former Metropoli-
tan Optical Center) in Or-
chard Mall, Orchard Lake
Rd. and 15 Mile.
Mike has what's called
Bionic Frames . . . and you'd
be surprised how much
punishment they can take
. . . or be bent almost
straight out with nothing
happening . . . Mark is quite
the fine young man . . and
knows what he's doing in
the realm of optical assis-
tance.
HOW JACK STEIN of
Add 'n Type quit smoking
. . . although he doesn't ad-
vocate the method for others
. . . Two years ago, he was hit
by a bus . . . had a cast on
his hand . . . was given a
cigarette and put it on his
cut lip as the blood dripped
down . . . He's never
touched a cigarette since.
THE SLOGAN AT
Dave's Plumbing is a good
one "A flush beats a full
house" . . . (even though it
doesn't in poker).

Begin Denies
Early Election

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Sources close to Premier
Menahem Begin this week
flatly rejected an assertion
by Labor Party chairman
Shimon Peres that Begin
may be planning to call a
general election before his
government's term of office
expires in 1981.
Peres said he believes
Begin wants to reap the
fruits of the peace treaty
with Egypt before public
dissatisfaction with Israel's
deteriorating economy
overtakes the Likud gov-
ernment.

NEW YORK — Using
non-technical terms, car-
toons and comic strips, the
March issue of "Keeping
Posted" — educational
magazine of the Union of
American Hebrew Congre-
gations — explains how the
main branches of Judaism
interpret Halakha, the
legal thought of Judaism.
In every generation,
"Keeping Posted" points
out, Jews confront new
stivations which require
new solutions. Questions
and answers covering every
aspect of life are exchanged
by inquirers and rabbis.
These Responsa, which are
then collected and arranged
into volumes.of case law for
determining future deci-
sions.
Drawing on traditional
texts, the Reform and Con-
servative movements have
evolved their own Responsa
literatures. Decisions are
written by their respective
rabbinical authorities ,and
law committees. Included in
the Reform collections are
Responsa on donating a
body to science and on Bar
Mitzva ceremonies on Sun-
day. In recent years Con-
servative Responsa have
dealt with driving to
synagogue on Shabat and
calling women to the Torah.
In its special issue, ti-
tled "Jewish Law,"
