Books are not men, and yet they are alive; they are man's memory and his aspi- ration. — Stephen Vincent Benet Eitan Belkind TEL AVIV (JTA) — Eitan Belkind died at age 82 in Rishon Lezion. He was one of the last survivors of "Nili," the Jewish intelligence organ- ization that provided infor- mation to the allied forces during World War I. Mr. Belkind and his brother, Naaman, were ar- rested by the Turks for their activities. Mr. Belkind was born in Rishon and was a deputy mayor of the town. Survived by a son, Ramon; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Stan- ley and Mrs. Lillian Man- dell of Chicago; and three grandchildren. * * FRIEDA LIPTEN, 78, of Brooklyn, N.Y., died May 27. Survived by two sons, Seymour of Huntington Woods and Bernard of Winter Park, Fla.; a daugh- ter, Mrs. Theodore (Frances) Fried of Baldwin, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. Interment New York. Max Weinberg, president and co-founder of Frank's Nursery Sales, Inc., died May 26 at age 63. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., Mr. Weinberg came to Detroit in 1941 to enter the produce business with an uncle. He was an active supporter of the Jewish National Fund and donated the plants that were given to the guests at the JNF annual dinners. He was a member of Tem- ple Israel, Pisgah Lodge of Bnai Brith, Knollwood Country Club, Perfection Lodge ofthe Masons and the Standard Club. He was active in efforts on behalf of the Allied Jewish Cam- paign and Israel Bonds. Mr. Weinberg was a former treasurer and board member of Sinai Hospital. Shaarey Zedek, Fresh Air Society and the United Hebrew Schools. He also was a board member and former secre- tary of Knollwood Country Club.
