In discussing the prob- lems of Jews in the Soviet Union he pointed out that "there are four times as many Jews that want to leave as are permitted to leave," and he emphasized that "we must keep up the pressure on the Soviet Union to stop the harass- ment of citizens." Rep. Brodhead urged that a reorganization of U.S. immigration laws is needed. Officers elected to JFS for a one-year term were: Mrs. Melvin Rosenhaus and Marvin C. Daitch, vice presidents; and Mrs. Frederick F. Shevin, treasurer. Directors elected to serve on the executive committee were Mrs. Robert Citrin, Mrs. James E. Labes, Emery I. Klein and Mrs. Dom Resnick. Klein will serve as chairman of the nominating committee. EDITH FRANK Re-elected to a second three-year term on the JFS board were: Klein, Mrs. Re- snick, Mrs. Seymour H. Rowe, David Shepherd and Dr. Allan Sosin. Elected for a first three-year term were Mrs. James M. August, Ed- ward Gold, Mrs. Martin Hart, Mrs. Samuel Oaks, Mark Kahn and Mrs. Bruce E. Thal. Edgar Fenton will serve a one-year term. Officers elected for RS for a one-year term were: Wal- ter Klein, vice president, Mrs. Bernard J. Cantor, secretary; and Edward A. Lumberg, treasurer. Re- elected to a second three- year term on the RS board were: Mrs. Milton J. Doner, Walter Klein, Mrs. Julian H. Krolik, Nathan L. Mils- tein, David Rosin, Jack Stattman and Mrs. Julian Stern. Elected for a first three- year term were: Mrs. Irwin Alterman, Harold Beznos, Mrs. Joel Hamburger, Mrs. Julian Harwood, Irving Katz, Mrs. Richard Krugel, Steven J. Radom, George Tarnoff and Mrs. Seymour Wayne. Dr. Max B. Winslow, re- tiring RS president, re- ported on the increased arrivals in recent months. He noted that in the period January through May 1979, 55 families, consisting of 158 persons, arrived, equiv- alent to the same number of people who had ar- rived in the period from June to December 1978. Albert M. Colman, retir- ing president of JFS, re- ported that there was an in- crease in the number of families, from 3,298 in 1977 to 3,686 in 1978. There was a similar increase in serv- ices to the aging, from 965 families in 1977 to 1,100 in 1978. The kosher Meals- on-Wheels program, jointly sponsored with the Na- tional Council of Jewish Women, Greater Detroit Section, has increased dur- ing the past year and is now serving 120 persons with two meals daily, five days per week. Dr. Conrad Giles, im- mediate past chairman of the Community Services Division, Jewish Welfare Federation, presented scrolls to Dr. Winslow and to Colman upon retiring from their presidencies. Samuel Lerner, executive director of both agencies, noted that there has been a tremendous increase in the amount of group therapy undertaken in the agency. In 1977 there were 99 indi- viduals in group tiferapy; in 1978 there were 209. In the past year there were 23 different adult therapy groups, plus. additional ac- tivity group therapy for younger children. "We also reached out to the community following renewed interest in the after effects of the Holocaust and formed two discussion groups with adult children of Holocaust survivors." Lerner said that "we have also reached out in the past year by increasing our serv- ices to children at Hillel Day School and providing a new service to children at the United Hebrew Schools." The nominating commit- tee for JFS consisted of Her- bert P. Sillman, chairman; Mrs. Robert Citrin, Mrs. Hugh Greenberg, Emery Klein, Mrs. Benjamin E. Jaffe and Mrs. Resnick. Ths RS Nominating Committee consisted of Mrs. Philip R. Marcuse, chairman; Mrs. Samuel J. Caplan, Lum- berg, Robert Siegel and Dr. Peter G. Shifriii. The arrangements com- mittee for the combined an- nual meeting was chaired by Mrs. Allan Nachman and Henry Gornbein. Couples Meet for City of Hope Mr. and Mrs. Group, City of Hope, will meet 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Franklin Pointe Apts. club house. Meyer Feinstein. and Reva Greenspan, co- ehairmen, will discuss plans for the 10th annual Bob-Lo moonlight cruise to be held July 18.
