Cantor Klein Guest of Honor
at Reception for Seminatry

be the guest of honor at The
Jewish Theological Semi-
nary reception 8 p.m. May
20 at Cong. Bnai Moshe. Dr.
Max Wohlberg, professor of
Hazzanut at the seminary,
will be the guest speaker.

William Sherr.
In designating Cantor
Louis Klein to receive the
Certificate of Appreciation
Award, the seminary com-
mittee took note of his many
years of service to the con-
gregation, the seminary
and the Jewish community
at large.
Cantor Klein has served
the congregation for two de-
cades. He is an active
member in his field as can-
tor and teacher of Hazzanut
with a number of his stu-
dents now serving in canto-
rial positions throughout
the United States. He par-
ticipates fully in the con-
gregational life of Bnai
Moshe and organized a
men's choir, sisterhood
choral group and choral
ensemble who perform at
services, concerts, musical
events, on television and
radio. He has appeared in
numerous concerts and lec-
tured before various groups.

CANTOR
LOUIS KLEIN
Cantor Klein is a
member of the Cantors
Assembly of America and
he held the office of trea-
surer. He served as
chairman of the Tri-State
Region Cantors Assem-
bly and is a member of its
national executive com-
mittee. He served as past
president of the Detroit
Cantors Council.
Cantor Klein received an
honorary fellowship award
from the Cantors Institute
of The Jewish Theological
Seminary and was honored
by State of Israel Bonds. He
is a member of the board of
the Zionist Organization of
America — Detroit District
and is involved in numerous
organizations including,
the Pisgah Lodge of Bnai
Brith; Oak Park Masonic
Lodge, for which he is a sol-
oist and member of the
Ritual Committee; Jewish
Community Council of De-
troit; and the Magen David
Adom.
Born in Romania, Cantor
Klein attended various
yeshivot in Europe. He
studied music at the Con-
servatorium in Ostend,
Belgium, and was
graduated from Guildhall
School of Music in London,
England, where he was in-
structed by Maestro Di-
Veroli. He studied Haz-
zanut with Prof. Isaac
Hellman and Cantor B.
Rabinowicz, but was most
inspired by his father who
was a Baal Tefila and im-
parted to him the various
traditional liturgical modes
as a young boy.

Program to Focus
on Soviet Jewry

Philip Siomovitz, editor
and publisher of The Jewish
News, and Steve Shaw,
community affairs associate
of the Jewish Community
Council, will address a pro-
gram on "Soviet Jewry and
Jews That Want to Leave
the Soviet Union" 10 a.m.
Sunday at Temple Beth El.
Complimentary breakfast
will be served at 9:30.
The program is sponsored
by the social action commit-
tee of the temple and the
temple brotherhood.
