Simon and Schuster
Pocket Books for the cur-
rent season include a
number of best sellers.
Among those topping the
new list is "A Family For-
tune" by Jerome Weidman.
This story of a Jewish
immigrant to the U.S. who
rose to financial power is a
portrayal of power-seeking,
leading to violence. Its ex-
pose of the horrors in the
prohibition days that led to
gangsterism represents a
bit of nearly-forgotten his-
tory.
The hero of the novel is
both hoodlum and lover. A
story of the tycoon who
ruled his sphere becomes an
immensely interesting
character dissected skill-
fully by Weidman.
Other Simon and
Schuster Pocket Books
include:
"Setting Free the Bears,"
by John Irving.
"An Army of Children,"
by Evan H. Rhodes, the
story of children in the
Crusades of 1212.
"Perdido," by Jill Robin-
son; a Hollywood novel.
A market research story
of the Pocket Books vast
field of popular pdperbacks
includes Earle Stanley
Gardner's "The Case of the
Stepdaughter Secret."
Highly acclaimed as one
of the year's most popular
novels is "The World Ac-
cording_to_.Garb" by John
Irving.
