Author Potok to Speak
for SZ Cultural Program

Author and educator, Dr.
Chaim Potok, will deliver a
lecture for the Cong.
Shaarey Zedek Cultural
Commission's spring series
8 p.m. Tuesday in the
synagogue. The lecture is
sponsored by the Berry
Family
Dr. Potok is the author of
"The Chosen," "The Prom-
ise," "My Name Is Asher
Lev" and "In the Begin-
ning," all fictional works.
His first non-fictional work
is "Wanderings," an illus-
trated history of the Jews.
He was ordained at the
Jewish Theological Sem-
inary, where he received
the Hebrew Prize and the
Homiletics Prize. He
earned a PhD degree in
secular philosophy from
the University of
Pennsylvania.

David Holtzman Will Chair
JNF Dinner Citing Jackiers

David B. Holtzman has
been named chairman of the
1979 Jewish National Fund
testimonial dinner honor-
ing Mr. and Mrs. Joseph H.
(Edythe) Jackier to be held
June 20 at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek, it was announced by
Carmi Slomovitz, chairman
of the Greater Detroit
Jewish National Fund
Council.
Holtzman is a member of
the board and of the execu-
tive and administrative
committee of Detroit JNF.
He is chairman of the execu-
tive committee of the State
of Israel Bonds organization
locally. He is a vice
president of the Michigan
branch of the American
Friends of the Hebrew Uni-
versity, chairman of its
Founders Society and co-
chairman of the May 16 He-
brew University Scopus
award dinner.
He is N ice president of
Men's ORT and ORT
scholarship chairman.
Holtzman is on the board
of Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah and is active in

Bnai David Lectures Focus
on Tradition, Social Issues

Cong. Bnai David's Insti-
tute for Adult Education
will open its spring lecture
series entitled, "Religious
Tradition and Contempor-
ary Social Problems," 8:30
p.m. Wednesday in the
synagogue.
Rabbi Morton F. Yolkut,
spiritual leader of the con-
gregation, will deliver the
lectures. Rabbi Yolkut will
speak on "Religious Tradi-
tion and Business. Ethics" at
the Wednesday lecture.
Subsequent lectures will

speak on "Conversion and
Adoption in the Religious

Marks 30 Years

Cong. Shaarey Zedek will
have a "Great/Little
Weekend" beginning to-
night to mark the 30th
birthday of its Beth Hayeled
nursery school and kinder-
garten and to commemorate
the International Year of
the Child.
A • dinner for Beth
Hayeled students and their
families will be held 6 p.m.
today at the synagogue.
Graduates of the first Beth
Hayeled classes, 1948-49,
have been invited to par-
ticipate. Guests will include
those graduates who have
children currently enrolled
in Beth Hayeled. Those in-
clude Barbara Tatken
Morse, Janet Maltzer Ends-
tein, Ann Brodsky Rosen-
berg and Lynda Morin
Moses.
On Saturday, the chil-
dren will sing Shabat songs

at the conclusion of services
in the main sanctuary and
each will receive a gift.
