The Best of Everything
JEAN COSPEREC,
executive chef now at
Sheraton-Southfield on W.
Nine Mile, is the same one
who received that once-in-
a-lifetime "Chef Of The
Year" award a couple of
years ago by Chef's 200
Club of Detroit... Cosperec
was nominated for the
prestigious honor by his
peers for culinary achieve-
ment.
Born in Morbihan, De-
partment of Brittany, in
France, Jean began his
practical training in the
culinary arts by aiding his
aunt and uncle, owners of a
banquet hall in Morbihan
. . . Later, during World
War II, he served as a
member of the Maquis in
the French Resistance and
was further called upon to
cook in the field camps
under battle conditions.
Jean came to Detroit from
France in 1949 and pursued
his career in food prepara-
tion . . . While learning the
English language, he was at
Statler-Hilton, Sheraton
Cadillac, Caucus Club,
London East and the De-
troit Boat Club before be-
coming executive chef at
Masonic Temple, where he
was responsible for the
entire banquet operation for
nine years . . . then chef at
the Latin Quarter . . . and
most recently executive
chef for three years at Fair-
lane Manor in Dearborn.
When asked about his
favorite food, Jean sim-
ply replies, "All kinds of
food" . . . But he does talk
most fondly about
French cuisine and the
food Frenchmen like in-
cluding the sauces and
soups which he makes so
very well.
Jim Joseff, noted for his
many years in the north-
west area, is back as direc-
tor of catering at the
