Henri Bizaoui, an Egyp-
tian Jew whose family
was expelled from Egypt
in 1956. Bizaoui's lecture
is entitled "Jews From
Arab Lands — a Forgot-
ten Issue."
The luncheon and pro-
gram are free to youth
group members. For infor-

Steven Lupovitch and
Mark Schostak were elected
president and first vice
president, respectively, for
the 1979-1980 term at the
recent Central Region
United Synagogue Youth
(CRUSY) convention in
Cincinnati, Ohio.

BNAI DAVID youth will
sponsor a special Passover
kidush for all young people
who attend Shabat youth
services 10 a.m. Saturday in
the synagogue. Story Hour
will meet in the library for
young children age four to
seven with leader Michelle
Goldman, while junior con-
gregation groups for youth
age eight to 14 meet. Each
group will observe the
Passover holiday with
games and discussions. ,
Masada (grades seven-
eight) will participate in the
El Al Airlines poster contest

Women's Organizations
will honor 34 students "for
outstanding scholastic and
religious achievement and
civic participation" 2:30
p.m. April 29 at Cong. Beth
Achim.

and Sarah Laker Israel
Youth Scholarship, it was

Kay is a student at the
University of Michigan.
Miss Spinner attends
Michigan State University.
Both Kay and Miss
Spinner will be enrolled
at the Hebrew University
in Jerusalem for the
1979-1980 academic year.

Trifa Monitoring
Group Is Forming

The Jewish Community
Council of Metropolitan De-
troit, in cooperation with
the Anti-Defamation
League of Bnai Brith, is or-
ganizing a committee of
local attorneys to monitor
the Federal Court proceed-
ings against Archbishop
Valerian Trifa, the alleged
Romanian Iron Guard
leader accused of inciting a
pogrom against Romanian
Jews during World War II.
The trial is scheduled to
begin July 30.
Interested attorneys,
especially those with a
background in immigration
law, are asked to call Steve
Shaw at the Jewish Com-

Spelling Bee

Ira Finkelstein, an eighth
grade student at Akiva He-
brew Day School, won a pre-
liminary district spelling+
bee, making him eligible to
compete in The Detroit
News-sponsored Metropoli-
tan Spelling Bee May 2.
Ira was last year's
runner-up in the District
Bee. In addition, Ira re-
cently won an honorable
mention in the Scholastic
Writing Awards competi-
tion, as well as the District
Bible Contest for his grade
level.
