Mai LELCO (313) 358-5596 NEW YORK (JTA) Hugh Carey an- nounced that kosher-for- Passover product labeling laws—in New York state, which he called the strongest in the nation, will be strictly enforced for Passover. Regulations are enforced by the kosher law enforce- ment division of the de- partment of agriculture and markets. The division does not certify the kashrut of any product, it was noted. Punishment for violations may be fines of up to $200 for each misrepresented item. The state regulations re- quire that each container or sealed package of kosher- for-Passover products must be clearly marked "kosher — 13831 W. 9 Mile Rd., Oak Park 543-7092 19068 W. 10 MILE ROAD SOUTHFIELD, MICH. 48075 NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS INTRODUCING A STORE THAT SELLS THE VERY SAME CLOTHING AS OTHER STORES. Gov . for Passover." Any -food commodity in a package form, which is marked "kosher for Passover" can- not be offered for sale unless the producer - registers the name of the certifying rabbi or certifying organization, product as kosher, with the agriculture and markets department. This registry is available for inspection at the kosher law enforcement division at the World Trade Center in New York City. Regulations also stipu- late that loose kosher- for-Passover labels in possession of anyone other than the original manufacturer or packer is a violation for food vendors. The kosher restaurant, the only one of its kind in the Latin Quarter, has been supplying kosher meals to Jewish students, professors and intellectuals for some 40 years. Meanwhile, on the day of the explosion, France's prestigious Cochin Hos- pital announced the forced resignation of its dean, Prof. Pierre Maurer. He was told to hand in his resignation after he had told a group of some 500 students, "I was always a fascist and I remain one today." Maurer, a world re- nowned orthopedic surgeon, said he had served during World War II as a volunteer with the Waffen SS on the Russian front -and "I am proud to have served my ideals." Ironically, several of Maurer's aides are Jews and the professor is known to be a warm supporter of Israel and Zionist causes. The university's board asked him to resign, say- ing that most professors and students can no longer work with him or accept his instructions after knowing about his past. Maurer said that the Board knew "all about my past when it elected me to the post of dean three years ago." He will continue, serv- ing as head of the hospital's orthopedic department.
