In Leba- non, where there are an es- timated 400 Jews left, the JDC shipped 1,058 pounds of matzot and 204 bottles of Passover _wine to enable them to conduct a Seder properly. In all; the JDC shipped 428,322 pounds of matzot and 30,468 bottles of Passover wine. The JDC also issued special grants to several countries for the purchase of Passover supplies locally. Romania received the largest amount, 230,690 pounds of matzot, 33,300 pounds of matza meal, 220 pounds of shmura matza and 30,000 bottles of wine. Tunisia received 57,100 pounds of matza and 3,307 pounds , of matza flour. Poland re- ceived 40,000 pounds of matza and 6,300 pounds of matza flour. Other countries receiving Passover supplies were: Greece, Italy, Yugos- lavia, Melilla and Cueta in Spanish Morocco, Por- tugal and Spain. The 17,637 pounds of matza and 264 bottles of wine sent to Italy were meant primarily for Soviet Jewish transmigrants wait- ing in Rome and nearby communities for formalities to be completed before pro- ceeding to the U.S. and other western countries. The JDC reported that the captain of the ship, "Padami," unloaded the matzot in Cyprus because the cartons had Israeli marking on them. He said that he could not take them to Alexandria be- cause the stamp on the bill of lading does not allow merchandise from Israel to be brought to Egypt. Aliya Increases JERUSALEM (JTA) — Immigration to Israel dur- ing 1978 increased by 17.4 percent over that of the pre- ceding year, it was reported by Zvi Wolf, the chairman of Histadrut's department for immigration and develop- ment.
