THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

LISTENING
POST

YOU SHOULD HAVE
been there . . . and seen a
mighty sight to behold .. .
About 70 red-fezzed men of
Crescent Shrine Club stood
very very tall as they as-
sisted in helping 1,457 crip-
pled, retarded, leukemia
and otherwise victims enjoy --
the Shrine Circus last week.
You should have been
there when one • of the
Shriners gave a hot dog to
one of the kids, who said,
"You mean I get this, too?"
. . . All got hot dogs and pop
. . . After all, what whould a
circus be without,them? . .
They cheered, they
screamed, they laughed,
they asked questions . . .
and had fun — so very much
fun . . . It was their day .. .
and Crescent's Day too.
The volunteers all wore
badges you could see . . . and
another that couldn't be
seen . . . hearts of glory on
this day of days when they
came out to help their
Shrine club-show a bunch of
youngsters that life isn't all
bad . . . Plenty of reason for
many to, be bitter . . . why
did they have to be crippled
or be struck with leukemia?
. . . But they forgot their bit-
terness for the day . . . and
you know something? .
I'll bet a -lot of them went
home saying, "Gosh, what a
swell bunch of guys to do all
this for me. Guess things
aren't as bad as I thought
they were:"
And what about the
Shriners who work
everyday at the circus?
. You can be sure these
fellows, from clowns to
horsemen to bike riders
to balloon salesmen like
past potentate Bill
Semanson . . . that's right,
a past potentate selling
balloons . . . etc., etc., etc.,
aren't forgotten ,..
They're the fellows every
kid who's been to a
'Shrine Circus seldom
forgets.
To the men of Crescent on
your day . . . you were
splendid . . . I can't begin to
tell you how proud I was to
be chairman.
Thanks . . . from me and
those 1,457 kids to whom
you showed a ray of happi-
ness . . . God bless you for
your very unselfish good-
ness.
"WE GOT OUP. OWN.
bookstore -now" young guys
'n gals from tots to 15 can
say as the Children's Book-
shop opened last week as
one of the very few' devoted
strictly to youngsters . . . at
Applegate Square, North-
western and Inkster . . . Ev-
erything is geared for the
kids in a cute concept by
bossladies Harriet Stone
and Judith Tenner . .
Books for all kiddie ages, re-
cords, puzzles, games and
stuffed animals that -look
like ornaments but are all
for sale . . Even mom and
dad get into the act with
books also available on how

MALT

Mengele's Location Known

Danny Raskin's

to raise their youngsters .. .
The kiddies also have a lit-
tle funhouse too.
This Sunday, from 10
a.m. until 6 p.m. will be its
Grand Birth Party for the
lads n' lassies to get a gift
and goodies.
SECOND MARRIAGE

wedding vows by Melissa
and Norman Weingarden
was recent surprise 10th
anniversary party for them
at home of Norman's par-
ents, Henrietta and Morris
Weingarden, for whom they
thought the party was being
-
held.

PEOPLE, DISA 'N
DATA ... Wonder where
they are: Sam "Mr. Polite-
ness" Goodman, Al Good-
man, one-time tycoon of St.
Regis Hotel on Grand Blvd.
. . . no relation to Sam, al-
though he has a brother by
the same name . . . Bobby
Adell, who helped so many
guys ., .. Sylvia Brilliant • . .
Hard-working, efferves-
cent gal behind those groW-
ing Rhodika cosmetic and
make-up selling and teach-
, ing locales is Rhoda Weiss
. . . Dermatologist Dr.
Michael Redmond at Henry
Ford Hospital is Marvin
Canvasser's son-in-law .. .
Dr. Redmond is married to
Judy . . . Sultan's Table,
Southfield and 10 Mile, is
doing a whopping lun-
chtime business since
changing its menu to
American .. . The evening
dinners are beginning to-
pidk up momentum also .. .

her mind to it . . . Shelley

with a special machine and
resells the discs . . . His

Woodward in Ferndale, is
the only place of its kind in
the area.

PUBLISHER TO novice
writer .. . "I predict a most
successful career for you.
You write beautifully, your
characters are clearly de-
lineated and you have a
filthy mind."

Writer to Speak

Detroit Free Press col-
umnist Nickie McWhirter
will speak on "Human Lib-
eration" 2:30 p.m. Sunday
at the Somerset Mall Au-
ditorium. There is a charge.
Her talk is sponsored by the
Center for New Thinking.

Wiesenthal, who was
here on a lecture tour, said
he received letters from
Paraguay Jews warning
they would be expoSed to re-
venge and retaliation
should anything happen to
Mengele who is reported to
be residing in that country.

COPENHAGEN (JTA) —
Nazi-hunter Simon Wie-
senthal said here that the
whereabouts of Joseph
Mengele is well-known but
"we have refrained from
taking action so as not to
risk the safety of the Jews of
Paraguay.",
