Allen Zeitlin

Allen T. Zeitlin, co-owner
of A and H Bolt and Nut Co.,
died March 22 at age 45.
A native Detroiter, Mr.
Zeitlin was a member of
Temple Israel and its board
of trustees, Oak Park Lodge
of the Masons and the U.S.
Trotting Association.
He leaves his wife, Bar-
bara; a daughter, Randee;
three sons, Garry, Barry
and Marc; his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Archie (Sophia)
Zeitlin; and a sister, Mrs.
Stanley (Geraldine)
Palmer.

Sir John Cohen,
Grocery Leader

LONDON (JTA) — Sir
John Cohen, the East End
Jewish Barrow boy who
founded Britain's biggest
supermarket chain, Tesco's,
died March 25 at age 80.
-Tack Cohen, as he was
n until he was knigh-
t,,, began business as a
street trader after World
War I and carved his way to
success by ruthless price-
cutting, which angered his
competitors but endeared
him to the housewife.
He popularized trading
stamps in Britain and his
business recently opened
its 600th store. Ten years
ago he handed the
chairmanship of Tesco's
to one of his sons-in-law,
Lesly Porter.
In World War I, he served
in the Royal Flying Corps
and was in Haifa when it
was captured by the British.

JACOB BARACH, 80,
147 W. Webster, Ferndale,
died March 23. Survived by
a son, Israel; a sister, Mrs.
Anna Malley of Deerfield
Beach, Fla.; a nephew, Ben
Malley of Delray Beach,
Fla.; and three nieces, Mrs.
Abraham (Celia) Goldstein
of West Palm Beach, Fla.,

Dr. S.L. Adelson

Dr. Sidney L. Adelson, a
retired medical doctor, died
March 28 at age 69.
A native Detroiter, Dr.
Adelson practiced medicine
in Detroit since 1933, fol-
lowing his graduation from
the University of Michigan
School of Medicine.
He was the former medi-
cal director of the Alexan-
der Hamilton Life Insur-
ance Co., a fellow of the
American College of Physi-
cians, a diplomate of the
American Board of Internal
Medicine and a former
member of the staffs of
Harper, Sinai and Critten-
don Hospitals. He also was
the former chief of the out-
patient department at
Harper Hospital.
Dr. Adelson served in
the Army Air Corp dur-
ing World War II and rose
to the rank of major.
He was a member of the
American Medical Associa-
tion and the Michigan State
and Wayne County Medical
Societies, the American
College of Physicians, the
Abraham Lincoln Club,
Mosaic Lodge of the Masons
and Cong. Beth Achim.
He leaves his wife, Zella;
a son, Edward of Snowmass,
Colo.; a daughter, Mrs.
Gerald (Joan) Kirshen-
baum of Tiburon, Calif.;
three brothers, William of
Largo, Fla., Oscar and Ef-
fron; three sisters, Mrs.
Samuel (Rose) Davidson,
Mrs. Maurice (Mae) Pike of
Saginaw and Mrs. Paul
(Gwen) Kelman; and one
granddaughter. Services
11:30 a.m. today at Ira
Kaufman Chapel.
