The Best of Everything

you about $15 a person for a
meal you will remember.
"The highest recom-
mendation I can give is to a
restaurant called Leah's. It
is the restaurant that every
tourist will be searching for
and serves good old Jewish
Hungarian cooking. The
goose is wonderful, the
strudel appetizer something
out of this world, the stuffed
chicken scrumptious, the
beef in sweet-sour sauce de-
lightful and the list goes on
throughout their whole
menu. The only thing I don't
recommend is the stuffed
cabbage which I found only
average. There is seating
available outside in the
nicer weather. Go there
hungry and have every-
thing you can possibly eat
for about $7 a person. It is
located in Rehavia, on
Keren Kayamit St., walk-
ing distance from the Plaza
Hotel.
"Felafel is the most typi-
cal food of Israel. It is a fried
ball made of mashed gar-
bonzo beans (chick peas),
with garlic and other de-
lights. It is then put into a
pita bread with salads,
tehina (a sauce made from
mashed sesame seeds) and
hot sauces are available. All
felafel may taste the same
to the non-educated tongue,
but I have my favorites. One
can be bought just off King
George St., one full block up
from Yaffa St. There is an-
other place with felafel and.
schwarma (sliced lamb
served in a pita bread —
also good) on the corner, but
next to it is the best felafel
in Jerusalem.
Also great is a little
hole-in-the-wall (really,
you could blink and miss
it) bare-window felafel
stand located on the
corner of Bezalel and
Evan Sapir. It is run by a
religious, elderly Yeme-
nite man. This place is
only open (generally with
a little line of customers)
from 6-8 in the evenings.
Felafel is the same price
all over — McDonald's
move over, 60 cents and it
is a full meal.
