The Best of Everything

(Continued from Page 32)
Evergreen . . . it is the only
place around I know of that
still has this once very popu-
lar sandwich.

LITTLE CAESAR takes
its very successful Little
Caesars Pizza Station in-
side for the first time with
the recently opened one at
Northland.
Drawing is April 9 on that
huge 30 lb. Wilno kosher
salami hanging at Sol's .. .
no purchase is needed for
adults to fill out coupons.

RENOVATION IS com-
pleted at Le Cafe coffee shop
on_ the lobby floor of Hotel
Pontchartrain . . . after
three weeks of redoing the
floor plan and decor to pro-
vide more private seating
arrangements and a brigh-
ter, garden terrace atmos-
phere . . . The color scheme
is yellow, green and tan,
and new carpeting has been
installed.
On the 25th floor,
Skywalker, five-piece musi-
cal group which made a big
hit with guests at Top of the
Pontch last fall, has been
scheduled for a return
engagement, Tuesday
through April 28.
Vocal harmony is done by
vocalist Kathy Parker, Ar-
nold Bruveris on keyboards
and synthesizer, Steve
Allen on bass, Jim Ryan on
drums and Doug Cassens,
saxophonist . . . Their music
is geared for both dancing
and listening, ranging from
tunes popularized by Glenn
Miller to Gloria Gaynor.

THROWBACK OF
MANY years gone by is still
maintained by Davison
Coney Island on Nine Mile,
west of Coolidge in Oak
Park . . . that of cooking
their own beans . . . The
hamburger is bought from
Schwartzberg Kosher
Meats and onions are
freshly cut.
This is a third-generation
operation . . . starting back
on 12th and Clairmount .. .
to Linwood and Davison .. .
and now Nine Mile in Oak
Park.
Around October, Davison
Coney Island will move to
Maple and Telegraph, .. .
with a few more items on
the menu but never forget-
ting the biggest reason why
so many people come from
all over, following them
through the years . . . the
Coney Islands, chili and
loose hamburgers.

"TEDDY'S TOWN"

By Elizabeth Frumkin

"Since I work and live in
Teddy's Town — that is
Mayor Kollek — as an
English secretary to him, I
can only give some ideas for
culinary treats in our city of
Jerusalem. I will attempt to
give recommendations and
locations of restaurants
from the well-known and
more expensive places to
the more remote local
places, where you would not
likely see another tourist.
"On the more expensive
and elegant side (and a
place Teddy frequents) is

Mishkenot Shaananim. A
dinner will cost about
$15-20 each. Don't miss out
on the appetizers, which is
the very best part of the
meal. Mishkenot
Shaananim is located in an
area called Yemin Moshe,
also known as the artist
quarter, but not for the poor
artist. The area also has a
guest house of the same
name for visiting artists
and intellectuals (some of
the guests have been Isaac
Stern, Leon Uris and the list
goes on and on). This build-
ing was the first built out-
side the Old City walls by
Montefiore.
"Only a month ago, for
those who desire Chinese
food, I would have recom-
mended Mandy's Tai Chai,
which is still very good. But
my new favorite, is called
the Formosa. Recently
opened, it is located on Be-
zalel St. Do not miss out by
not ordering the hot and
sour soup, which is practi-
cally a meal in itself. A meal
will cost you less than $8.
"Both of the most
recommended fish res-
taurants are owned by
two brothers. Benny's
also located on Bezalel St.
is kosher and the spe-
cialty is St. Peter's Fish
(which was originally
only found in the Sea of
Galilee). This brings out
the question if anything
having to do with St.
Peter can really be
kosher — but it is! The
other is non-kosher and
located in East
Jerusalem and is called
the Dolphin. Both offer a
full meal at less than $10 a
person.
