The document, which is duplicated in this issue, con- forms with the precept that a Jew must sell all bread and leavened products that remain in his home or on his property for Passover. The homeowner locks away the hametz that he wishes to sell in a specified place in his house; then the rabbi acts as intermediary to transact a sale of these hametz products to a non- Jew. For the duration of the Passover festival this sale is absolutely legal and binding according to Torah law as well as ac- cording to state law; the hametz simply does not belong to the homeowner, although it is in his house. (After Passover the transaction is reversed and the hametz again becomes the property of the Rabbi Nelson's Peace Prayer Special to The Jewish News WASHINGTON, D.C. — An echo of the peace making ceremony on the White House lawn the previous day was sounded by Rabbi David Nelson of Cong. Beth Shalom of Oak Park in his prayer opening the session of the U.S. House of Repre- sentatives on Tuesday. This was the text of Rabbi Nel- son's prayer: Mechiras Chometz Campaign Fill in — cut out and mail to: Lubavitcher Center 14000 W. 9 MILE RD., OAK PARK, MICH. 48237 548-2666 Delegation of Power of Attorney for Sale of Chometz KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS: That I, the undersigned, do hereby make, constitute and appoint RABBI B. Dated' Address homeowner.) • Rabbi Gottlieb said the mitzva is often neglected because it is considered in- convenient. For this reason, he has sought the legal as- sistance of several attor- neys, who have drawn up a "Delegation of Power of At- torney for Sale of Hametz." The legal form provides for the homeowner to fill in his name and grant Rabbi Gottlieb the "full authority and power" to sell the hametz and "to lease said place or places wherein said hametz may be found upon such terms and upon such conditions as he, in his abso- lute discretion, shall deem, fit and proper." Rabbi Gottlieb stressed that the unleavened prod- ucts will remain in the indi- vidual's home, although hidden away. , There is no cost for this service, but the form must reach this office, no later than April 10. Rabbi Gottlieb said- respon- sibility cannot be accepted for forms returned later. Forms should be sent to the Lubavitcher Center, 14000 W. Nine Mile, Oak Park 48237.
