Rabbi Leizer Levin,
president of the Council of
Orthodox Rabbis of Greater
Detroit, announces that the
Michigan Milk Producers
Association this year helped
the council arrange for an
adequate supply of kosher
milk for Passover.
Jewish - law states that
foods consumed during
Passover must be kosher,
ritually clean and pure of
hametz.
For milk and milk prod-
ucts, that means personal
supervision by a mashigakh
(supervisor) of all proce-
dures from the farm to the
dairy to guarantee that the
milk does not come into con-
tact with anything consid-
ered unfit for Passover. The
requirement prohibitx mix-
ing kosher milk with milk
obtained during milkings
that were not under Jewish
supervision.

periods for the required
volume of milk, supervi-
sion also included in-
spection of the tanks and
pipelines before and
after the kosher milk
supply was obtained. The
same requirements
applied to the farm bulk
pick-up truck — only
kosher milk in a person-
ally supervised clean
tank — and taken sepa-
rately to the Daily
Creamery in Hamtramck
for bottling.

At Daily Creamery, care
was taken to insure the
kosher milk was not co-
mingled with any other
milk and all lines and
machinery had to be espe-
cially cleaned and sanitized
before and after the load of
kosher milk was bottled.
Daily Creamery bottled the
approximately 70,000
pounds of milk in special
blue quart cartons, which in
turn were distributed to
supernlarkets over a wide
area of the state and even in
the Toledo area. Daily
Creamery furnishes the
kosher milk to the various
dairies in the city.

Wall Hangings
on Judaica at
Beth Shalom

The Needlethreaders will
display a collection of wall
hangings dealing with as-
pects of Judaica Sunday
through April 14 at Cong.
Beth Shalom.
The wall hangings depict
modern and ancient Jewish
symbols, scenes of
Jerusalem and more.
The wall hangings are de-
signed by the women and
are created by appliqueing
smaller pieces of cloth to a
background cloth, which
has been enhanced by crea-
tive stitchery.

A prudent question is
one-half of wisdom.
