IT'S ABOUT TIME
someone around here
thought about the young
people in our midst who are
dying to be part of the disco
scene, but are not old
enough to get into Oscar's,
Benny's or Pepper's. Start-
ing in April, kids from
eight-18 can dance the day
away at a real disco with the
same elaborate lights and
sound equipment that their
older brothers and sisters
get to enjoy.
Angie's, in Farmington
Hills, is starting what
they've dubbed "Sunday Af-
ternoon Fever." Kids are
welcome, with or without
their parents, all afternoon.
They can dance, sip non-
alcoholic drinks, munch on
chips and popcorn, learn the
latest disco dances from in-
structors, meet sports celeb-
rities who will be oft hand
and get a chance to show off
their dancing ability on a
professional dance floor in a
New York-style disco.
"I love kids," says Angie
Zerbo, owner of the club,
"and I'm happy to open my
doors to them on Sunday af-
ternoons. We're planning
all kinds of special things
for them and if the response
is good enough, we may
carry this over to Monday
nights as well during the
summer when school is

ALICE
WHEN
COOPER played Cobo
Arena recently, it was truly
a coming-home party for the
rock star who started right
here in the Detroit area. As
a matter of fact, seeing Alice
always brings back
memories for me. I did one of
the first interviews Alice
ever did, back in early 1971.
At the time he was living
out on a farm in Pontiac and
playing clubs like the .Eas-
town Theatre. •
I remember the first time
I saw an Alice Cooper show.
I was mortified. And the
idea of driving out to this
lunatic's secluded farm for
an interview was not too
appealing. Neither was the
thought of him coming over
to my house. So we com-
promised by meeting at my
brother Skip's Royal Oak
apartment.
From the second he
walked in, I realized that
first impressions aren't al-
ways correct. Anyone who
spends any time at all with
Coop soon discovers that
Alice Cooper is just a char-
acter that Vince Furnier
portrays when he's on-
stage. In reality, he's really
a nice, down-to-earth guy.
We've done five or six
interviews in the inter-
vening years and when
he was here again, at the
Michigan Inn, we had a
chance to catch up on
things. Seems he forgot a
couple of our past meet-
ings due to the fact that
he was drunk out of his
mind back in those days
and remembers very lit-
tle about what he did and
who he saw.
Happily, Coop's 10=year
stint as an alcoholic is over
at last and after three
months in an institution,
he's finally clean. He says
he's completely turned-off
to anything stronger than
soda pop. His marriage to
Cheryl (one of the featured
dancers in his show) is going
extremely well and he says
he's never felt better. His
shows are getting terrific
reviews and his latest al-
bum, "From the Inside," is a
hit.
"I'm so happy that the
album is successful. I think
it could have gone either
way. There was a time when
an album like this, dealing
with this subject, could be
treated very depressingly. I
mean, I hate depression. So
it was my idea to make this
album a celebration. You
know — Alice is released
