single Israeli soldier cap-
tured in South Lebanon last
April 4 by Ahmed Jibril's
Popular Front for the Lib-
eration of Palestine-Central
Command.
The exchange, which took
place at a remote corner of
Geneva Airport, culmi-
• nated almost a year of secret
• negotiations directed by De-
• fense Minister Ezer Weiz-
• man with the approval of
• Premier Menahem Begin,
• but without the knowledge
• of the rest of the Cabinet.
• The secrecy and the lop-
• sided ratio of 76 Arabs for
• one Israeli has caused con-
• sternation in some Israeli
circles.

The freed soldier, ANT-
I raham Amram, is one of six
• Israeli soldiers and civilians
• who strayed across enemy
• lines while on an un-
• authorized sightseeing tour
• in South Lebanon 11
• months ago and were
• waylaid by Jibril's ter-

• territory.

A special chartered

• Middle East. A few min-
• utes after the Israeli
• plane landed, a Bulga-

• Amram arrived from Be-

Amram was allowed to
board the Israeli plane only
I after the last 33 Palesti-
nians had been checked and
boarded the Bulgarian
plane. They were flown to
Libya and Amram to Israel
for debriefing and reunion
with his wife, children and
mother.
Israeli authorities said
that two-thirds of the re-
leased Palestinians were
common criminals and only
one-third were serving sen-
tences for terrorist acts.
They stressed that the lat-
ter included no well-known
terrorists such as Kozo
Okamoto.

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Is-

Most disconcerting to the
general public was the army
of some 4,000 school chil-
dren mustered to wave flags
and shout greetings to the
American President each
time his motorcade sped
through the streets. These
youngsters were trans-
ported from street to street
only to find that the
Presidential route had been
changed.

throes of labor. The lone cop
at that particular . barrier
was in a quandry until
closer examination re-
vealed the woman to be
swollen not with child but
with feather pillows.
Another barrier was
approached by a "fun-
eral cortege" so lengthy
as to appear that some
prominent dignitary was
being conveyed to his
final resting place, but
when questioned the
"mourners" were at a
loss to provide the name
of the "deceased."
