of the Palestine Liberation
Organization in Beirut
have strongly criticized
China for its invasion of
Vietnam, apparently end-
ing a friendly relationship
that had lasted for 14 years.
Saleh Khalef, also known
as Abu Iyad, Yasir Arafat's
second in command in the
guerrilla movement, said at
a public rally in Lebanon,
"We openly declare that we
stand on the side of Vietnam
against the Chinese inva-
sion." He said the action by
China was "incomprehensi-
ble for a power which is sup-
poed to be on the side of pro-
gressive forces."
An alliance of Lebanese
Moslem and leftist political
groups accused Peking of
serving imperialist designs

in Southeast Asia, and re-
called China's backing of
the Middle East policy of
President Anwar Sadat of
Egypt. That policy is op-
posed by the Palestinians
and Arab leftists.

power to recognize the
Liberation
Palestine •
Chinese
Organization.
