Rhea Appelman Is Honored
as Heart of Gold Volunteer

Rhea Appelman of Hun-
tington Woods was among
nine volunteers honored
"for outstanding _commu-
nity service" Tuesday at the
12th annual Heart of Gold
Award luncheon at Cobo
Hall.
The event was co-
sponsored by the Heart of
Gold Award Council and
Women for the United
Foundation.
The winners were hon-
ored by Mrs. William G.
Milliken and received spe-
cial recognition from
Charles T. Smith, Jr.,
chairman of the board of the
Central Business District
Association. Guest speaker-
at the luncheon was actor

Shmuel Segev, editorial
writer and political analyst
for Israel's evening news-
paper, Maariv, will be in the
Detroit area next week to
address local Jewish organ-
izations.
Sponsored in Detroit by
the Detroit Zionist Federa-
tion, Segev served with the
Israeli intelligence forces
and was deputy military
governor of the Gaza Strip
during the Sinai Campaign
in 1956.
He was special adviser
to Haile Selassie in 1964
and in 1965 visited

on the Vietnam War.
