Diplomat Hotel in Hol-
lywood, Fla., it was an-
nounced by Mrs. Sol Hen-
kind, chairman of the semi-
nary's National Women's
Patrons Society, the group
sponsoring this annual
event. Rabbi Yaakov G.
Rosenberg, a vice chancel-
lor of the seminary, will be
guest speaker.
Mrs. Shenkman will be
the fifth woman to be
awarded the seminary's
Solomon Schechter Medal.
Mrs. Shenkman is a past
president of the former
Cong. Beth Aaron Sister-

as an officer and activity
chairman in the Michigan
Branch of Women's League
for Conservative Judaism
since it was a branch in
training. She served as
president of Michigan
Branch from 1966 to 1968
and as Torah Fund chair-
man for many years.
In 1971 she was awarded
the National Community
Leadership Award by the
Jewish Theological Semi-
nary. She has served as a
national board member of
Women's League for two
four-year terms and was on
its Torah Fund Cabinet for
several years.
Together with her hus-
band, Jack, - who was
president of the former
Cong. Beth Aaron and a
past president of the United
Hebrew Schools of Detroit,
the Shenkmans have served
in leadership posts with the
Jewish Welfare Federation
and the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign in Detroit. They have
been active in the work of

In 1977, she and her fam-
ily became a four genera-
tion life-member group in
Hadassah. She was joined in
membership by her mother,
mother-in-law, two daugh-
ters and two
granddaughters. In 1977,
the Shenkmans dedicated a
room in the cardiac inten-
sive care wing in Grace
Hospital of Metropolitan
Detroit.
A year earlier, they
dedicated a dormitory
room in New York City in
the Mathilda Schechter
Residence Hall of the
Jewish Theological Sem-
inary. The Shenkman
family are founders in
Shaare Zedek Hospital in
Jerusalem, and dedi-
cated a library and audio
visual room in the- new
hospital facilities.
They have established a
study facility in the youth
aliya village in Israel and
dedicated a forest of 100,000
trees in the JNF American
Freedom Forest. The
Shenkmans dedicated the
synagogue in the Chabad
House located on the cam-
pus of the University of
Michigan.
- The Detroit Bnai Brith
Women have named Mrs.
Shenkman the "1979
Woman of the Year."
