The chorale, comprised of 48 singers, is difected by Cantor Jerome B. KOpmar, who organized it in 1971. Cantor Moshe Taube of Cong. Beth Shalom, Pittsburgh, Pa?, will be the guest soloist. The Beth Abraham Youth Chorale singers have performed throughout the Eastern and Midwestern parts of the United States and were the first American synagogue choir to ap- pear in Israeli concerts. It also gave a series of con- certs in England. The chorale represented the United States at the In- ternational Festival of Choirs (Ziirirya) in Israel. It won four consecutive Sol- omon Schechter Awards in Music for its synagogue. The chorale also was awarded a Schechter Award for Education. He is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and was on the faculty of the Cantors Institute of the Jewish Theological Semi- nary. He has appeared in concerts on four continents. The concert will conclude the musical weekend at Cong. Beth Achim, which will start Feb. 16 with Kabalat Shabat services at 6 p.m. and traditional Fri- day night dinner honoring immediate past president, Allan Silverman. The chorale has six com- mercial recordings to its credit. Cantor Kopmar has served Beth Abraham in Dayton, Ohio, since 1969. He was trained at the Hartt College of Music, Hartford, Conn., where he was born; the Cleveland Institute of Music •and the Cantors In- stitute, College of Jewish Music of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He has commis- sioned, premiered and re- corded 13 major works of Jewish music and has ap- peared as soloist and con- ductor throughout the Un- ited States, Israel and Eng- land. Cantor Taube, the soloist, was born in Cracow, Poland, and began to absorb the traditional cantorial melodies with two famed cantors, Shmuel Kaufman and Yossele Mandelbaum. He came to Palestine and joined the Hagana and fought in the defense of Jerusalem during the War of Independence and later in the Sinai Campaign.
