(ZINS) — In an interview in the Kuwait newspaper Al Suasa, Egyp- tian President Anwar Sadat says that Israel's Menahem Begin was persuaded dur- ing the Camp David meet- ings to evacuate all Jewish settlements in the Sinai through pressure brought by Sadat and President Jimmy Carter. According to Sadat, Begin was told that Carter and Sadat would call a press conference and blame Begin for the failure of Camp David if he did not agree to evacuate the Sinai settle- ments. With 300 leaders from 51 U.S. and Canadian Jewish com- munities seated in the vis- itor's gallery, Israel's Fi- nance Minister Simha Er- lich told the Knesset, "State • of Israel Bonds is one of the central instruments for translating solidarity with Israel into daily actions." Erlich pointed out that the need for Bonds will in- crease when peace with Egypt iS achieved because of the large-scale development efforts which will be re- quired in the Negev. Military Spending JERUSALEM (ZINS) — The defense portion of Is s - rael's proposed 1979-80 na- tional budget is lower than in the past, while there are reports that Egypt will ex- ceed her military budget. Israeli Finance Minister Simha Ehrlich is calling for a military budget of IL 34.5 billion ($1.8 billion) and an arms purchasirtg budget of IL 29 billion ($1.5 billion). Meanwhile, Egypt is ex- pected to exceed her annual budget for military spend- ing of one billion Egyptian pounds: conference on social wel- fare. Major meetings in 1979 include: the fifth interna- tional conference on medical physics, the in- ternational conference of Brethren in Christ and the international con- gress of the World Feder- ation of Hemophilia.
