THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS - J.:: U.S. Rekinding CETA Fund Ban - NEW YORK (JTA) — Proposed new regulations for Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CIETA) funds, which would have fo use of such funds for r on-the-job training for persons in re- ligious schools and houses of worship ha,ve been dropped after protests from a broad range of Jewish organiza- tions. The ban, which would have included Christian- sponsored schools and churches and which also was protested by Christian groups, was included in proposed regulations scheduled for publication by the Department of Labor in the Federal Register on Jan. 19. Under the on-the-job training program, particip- ants are employed for 20 weeks and their wages are paid half by the employer and half by CETA. While exact figures were not im- mediately available, CETA grants to Jewish organiza- tions have totaled hundreds of thousands of dollars an- nually. - ... Austria Seeking Israeli Kfirs VIENNA — Austrian of- ficials announced last week that they were negotiating with Israel for the purchase of Kfir jet fighter planes. An Austrian newspaper reported that Austria was seeking to buy 24 Kfirs and assemble them in Austria. The Kfir reportedly had been selected over Swedish, French and American jets.
