The conference will be led by Prof. Raymond Tanter and Ms. Nancy Good. Dr. Tanter is an interna- tionally recognized expert on the Middle East. He re- ceived a PhD degree in political science from In- diana University and is now associate chairman of the political science depart- ment of the University of Michigan. He is visiting professor at Hebrew Uni- versity of Jerusalem, where for the last five years he has taught methodology 'and conducted research on the Arab-Israeli conflict. Dr. Tanter serves on numerous editorial boards and is con- sultant to the Rand Corp., the U.S. Defense Depart- ment and UNESCO. Nancy Good received a BA degree with honors in political science from U-M. She is a teaching assistant and a graduate student in international relations at U-M. Jacqueline Zeff, assistant_ professor of English at Wayne State University, will lead the discussion on "The Plough-Women," an anthology of autobiographi- cal experiences of women who came to Israel from different parts of the world. Ms. Zeff has lectured on women's literature at In- diana University, at a Modern Language Asso- ciation Meeting in St. Louis, in San Antonio, Texas, and Rochester, N.Y. In addition, she has published several papers and is currently at work on a book about the poet Anne Sexton. The literature series is part of the contemporary Jewish affairs programs of NCJW. Rabbi Posner was or- dained at the Lubavitcher Beef-Barley Soup By NORMA BARACH (Copyright 1979, JTA, Inc.) On cold winter days, a hot, hearty bowl of soup is good for lunch or dinner. Prepare this soup a day ahead of time so you can remove the fat from it. 4-6 beef soup bones 10-12 cups water 2 stalks celery, with leaves 4 carrots, cut in half 1 large onion, peeled 1 /4 tsp. white pepper salt to. taste 3 tbsps. soup greens 3 /4 cup large pearl barley Add water and bones to pot and bring to a boil, covered. Cook on medium,heat one-half hour. Skim off top of soup. Add remaining ingredients -and cook for two hours on a low to medium heat (covered). Taste and add more salt, if neces- sary. Take out bones and re- frigerate soup overnight. Re- move fat from top. Reheat and serve. Serves about eight. RABBI POSNER Yeshiva in.
