ADL's Project
Reduces Bias
in the Schools

NEW YORK — "Indi-
vidual Differences," a series
of teachers' learning aids,
distributed by the Anti-
Defamation League of Bnai
Brith, is designed to help
grade school children and
their parents cope with pre-
sent day prejudice and bias.

The classroom lessons
contained in "Individual
Differences" have proven
successful in Madison, Wis.,
where the program origi-
nated, and in many public,
parochial and private
schools throughout the
country.

Observers of the Madison
project say that teachers be-
come more aware of their
own biases and more "con-
sciously respect the dif-
ferences of all children";
religious holidays are hand
led with much more discre-
tion and respect; children
with special needs — handi-
capped in one way or an-
other — are more accepting
of their problems which are
also better understood by
teachers and classmates;
there is less name-calling
and more understanding of
why it is negative; there is
more understanding of the
consequences of such "de-
structive human behavior"
as stereotyping
