A New Chamberlain Peace?

Editor, The Jewish News:
It seems that Sadat ex-
posed the mental nakedness
of the Arab mentality which
is well-known in the West-
ern world.
Never in the history of
human warfare has a de-
feated nation dictated the
terms of peace.
Arabs attacked Israel
four times and Israel was
forced to fight for survival
at a great cost of life plus
billions of dollars in .dam-
age.

President Jimmy Car-
ter is playing the role of
the "umbrella man,"
Chamberlain, prime
minister of England dur-
ing the Munich crisis.
Chamberlain signed a
peace treaty- with Hitler,
but how long did it last?
President Carter, search
your conscience. How in the
name of justice do you ex-
pect the Israelis to sign
their own verdict of Death?
Another Masada?

Rabbinics Book
Aiding Students

Anti-Nazi
Letters Urged

NEW YORK — A book
published this month is aid-
ing rabbinic scholars in the
U.S. and Israel. "Beolam
Hamahshava Shel Haiel,"
by Dr. Avraham Holtz, an
introduction to Dr. Max
Kadushin's analysis of rab-
binic thought, was pub-
lished jointly by the Jewish
Theological Seminary and
Sifriat Poalim (Workers'
Press) of Jerusalem, the
publishing arm of Mapam.
The Hebrew volume is both
a summary and translation
of Dr. Kadushin's writing,
with explanatory commen-
tary by Dr. Holtz.
In Israel, the seeds of the
partnership were sown a
dozen years ago, when Dr.
Holtz was lectuling to resi-
dents of the seminary's stu-
dent center in Jerusalem.
Included in his class were a
few young kibutzniks who
were living at the center
and tentatively dipping into
traditional texts which
previously had been only
nominally part of their heri-
tage.
These young men found
rabbinic thought remote
from their own thinking,
and very difficult to under-
stand. It was when Dr. Holtz
began using Dr. Kadushin's
interpretation of the rab-
binic • mind that they saw
glimmers of light — and
urged that Dr. Kadushin's
book be made available to
them in Hebrew.

Thousands of Nazi crimi-
