been living there since
1652. The Great Synagogue
on Great Victoria St. in Belt
fast was founded in 1871.
Russian and Polish im-
migrants supplemented the
Jewish population in the
20th Century. Belfast's 280
Jewish families until re-
cently centered its activity
about its Jewish Institute at
33 Ashfield Gardens and
the new communal center at
Northleigh.
(Northern Ireland's last
Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog
had gone to Israel to become
Chief Rabbi of Israel.)
The new synagogue
built at 49 Somerton Rd.
was a monument to the
future which is now
bleak.
The recent violence in
Northern Ireland has
brought about a mass
exodus of people, including
Jews. The Belfast Talmud
Torah is particularly in a
critical financial condition.

Now that we're in 1979,
We have to think of new lines to rhyme,
We'll have to search for phrases divine
And conjure up images benigh:

But as for things upon which to dine,
We always have FARM MAID in mind!

Try our Kosher Cottage Cheese and
Sour Cream for a starter — the best Kosher
repast any time of the year!

Two caterpillars were
crawling across -thee grass
when a butterfly flew over
them. They looked up, and
one nudged the other and
said: "You couldn't get me
up in one of those things for
a million dollars!"

You don't have to know your meats and poultry
when you buy kosher, because not only do you
receive the finest, but that very important personal
touch. All our meats and poultry are triple in-
spected to assure you, the public, that only when
buying kosher do you receive the purest.
