THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

The Best of Everything

(Continued from Page 28)
young girl who was having
trouble getting married .. .
In desperation, her mother
suggested she put an ad in
the paper . . . The girl placed
an ad that read, "Attractive
young homemaker desires
companionship of man seek-
ing same." . . . After a few
days the mother asked if
anyone answered the ad .. .
The daughter hesitantly re-
plied, "Yes — Papa!"
IF SOMEBODY walked
up to you and asked the first
names of Red Skelton and
Skitch Henderson, could
you give them? . . . They're
Richard and Lyle.
PREMIERE OF Delta
Lady Thursday Nite Com-
edy Factory is set for Thurs-
day . . . with Mark Kor-
nhauser, former Oak
Parker, emceeing and per-
forming his magic and com-
edy.
Delta Lady nitery is on
Woodward just south of
Nine Mile . . . Its new
entertainment bit every
Thursday evening will
serve as a showcase for com-
ics, magicians and 'variety
acts.
Idea is to attract local ta-
lent looking for a stage on
which to sharpen and con-
tinue their show biz careers
. . . The goal is to provide a
local weekly launching pad
in the spirit of the comedy
clubs like Sylvester's in
Chicago or the many in Los
Angeles and San Francisco
. . . For more info, call Delta
Lady, 545-5483.

STARR HAS RE-
TURNED to Hurley's in

the Northfield Hilton,
Crooks Rd. and 1-75,
through Jan. 27 . . . The
versatile vocal-musical
group features contempor-
ary music . . . Lead vocalist
Anita Greene is backed by
Mark Hechert using six
different keyboard instru-
ments, Dave Pridemore on
drums and Brad Davison,
bass . . . All members share
the lead vocal spotlight.

A MARRIOTT HOTEL

will be built by Prudential
Insurance at its Northwest-
ern Hwy. locale . . . and re-
ceive one of five liquor
licenses in Southfield being
held for "biggieS" so to
speak.
Forty-six licenses are now
in operation . . . After the
1980 census, Southfield will
be allowed 61 . . . Still
active, although none are in
business, are Meyerson
Corp. (Trio), Mama Zelda's,
Iry Grodan (Post Office &
Sail Inn) and Vineyards.
Wing Hong on 10 Mile
and Southfield has been
given a "resort" liquor
license, which is now in use
. . . First time I ever heard of
a Chinese restaurant being
a resort!
Other applications in-
clude: Bagel Nosh, Gold
Coin, Buddy's Pizza, China
City, J.L. Hudson's (North-
land), Great Lakes Corp. in
North Park Place (club
license), Pizza Hut, Yong
Ku Choe opening on South-
field Rd. and Healthy Jones.

ARTHUR KAPET-
ANSKY, guitarist-songster

- humorist about town,
writes his own repartee
even though father
Seymour Kapetansky has
been a top writer at WDIV
(formerly WWJ) since the
Revolutionary War it
seems.

CHINESE PEPPER STEAK

DID YOU KNOW it was

a federal offense to even
mention "Delicatessen
Style" on a product not
processed in a delicatessen?
. . . This is even stricter
than the state law which
bans the use of the words
kosher or kosher style un-
less absolutely so (of course,
there is no such thing as
kosher style.).

YOU'VE HEARD THIS

before . . . but it's apropos
about some dining spot bos-
ses in town . . . The owner of
a restaurant, being told that
a rival eatery had burned
down, replied, "I'm sorry to
hear it but it's the first time
the food's been hot in his
place."

JUDY ATWOOD brings

a something different sound
to the new Rib 'n Crab,
Eight Mile west of Ever-
green . . . She plays a
melodious organ with nim-
ble effectiveness . . . Wed-
nesdays through Saturdays
from 8 p.m. . . . accompanied
by musical side-effects that
ooze out show tunes, oldies,
big band sounds of the 40s,
etc.
Judy is a gal with a lot of
personality and talent as
she vocalizes on songs like
"What I Did For Love,"
"Baby Face," "Bye Bye
Blackbird" and so many
others . . . She also com-
poses her own tunes and
talks to the audience with
smiling pleasantness.
People look around and
stare in wonderment as
Judy says, "I'd like to fea-
ture my bass player on the
next song. You can't see
him." . . . (It's her side man
key) . . . and then bursts out
into a rhythmic beat with
foot-stomping accord.
