Israel Bonds
Records 1978
Increased Sales

NEW YORK (JTA) — A
total of $369.8 million was
produced by the Israel Bond
Organization in 1979 to
help finance and advance
the economic development
of Israel, it was announced
by Sam Rothberg, general
chairman and Michael Ar-
non, president and chief
executive officer.
This makes an increase of
$38 million over 1977 fig-
ures.
For the fourth successive
year, cash receipts from the
sale of Israel Bonds and
her Israel securities
owed substantial. in-
crease over the previous
years. The increase in 1978
is the largest achieved in
any non-war year.
In analyzing Israel Bond
figures for 1978, Arnon em-
phasized "these show a con-
tinued gain in sales to the
non-Jewish community in
addition to traditional
Jewish support." This in-
crease, he noted, "comes
from corporate funds, labor
unions, banks and other
sources. This demonstrates
the solidarity of the busi-
ness, labor and financial
community with Israel and
dramatizes their faith in the
future of Israel."

NEW YORK (JTA) —
The Jewish Telegraphic
Agency's daily news file

headquarters in New York

flights,

wide:Viing the latest com-
putei'lechnology via Reut-

ers transmission facilities.
Until the end of 1978, the
JTA operator punched copy
on a teletype machine and
transmitted the copy to
Reuters in New York,
where it was relayed
through another teletype
operation to Reuters Auto-
matic Data Exchange
(ADX) in London and from
there to JTA offices and
clients throughout the
world.
JTA operators now type
stories on an ultra-modern
electronic terminal which
combines a TV screen and a
typewriter keyboard, stores
articles on a floppy disc and
at any appropriate time
transmits them via tele-
phone to a computer in
Reuters' New York data
center. The computer then
automatically forwards
material to the ADX in
London.
Introduction of the elec-
tronic system means that
IViews is transmitted and dis-
buted faster. In addition,
. the terminal ensures that
fewer errors are made,
makes it easier to repeat
copy that is garbled or lost
in, transmission and, also,
allows JTA editors to make
last-minute changes.
