Achievements of Cantor Blank
Recalled by Colleagues on 90th
Cantor Henry J. Blank
will be honored at a recep-
tion marking his 90th
birthday 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11
at the Livonia Jewish Con-
gregation.
Cantor Blank, who re-
tired last year after 70 years
as a cantor, was the first
conductor of the Halevy
Singing Society, a secretary
of the Jewish Community
Council, secretary of the
Cantors' Council and served
on the teaching staff of the
United Hebrew Schools.
Cantor Blank's father
was a cantor in Russia and
the United States. His un-
cle, Leon Blank, was a
well-known actor in the
Yiddish theater.
Cantor Blank's late
brother, Leon, was the
representative here of
the now defunct Jewish
Day-Morning Journal in
the late 1920s. Cantor
blank has' two other
brothers in Jerusalem,
one of whom is a dean of a
yeshiva. His wife, Louise, .
was graduated from the
Conservatory of Music in
Buenos Aires, and has
served as his accom-
panist. Their sons, Sinai
and Marvin, are both
businessmen.
A friend of Cantor
Blank's for 20 years, Adat
Shalom Synagogue's Can-
tor. Larry Vieder, will take
part in a musical program
presented by thr cantors at
the reception for Cantor
Blank.
