The Best of Everything
A NEW DIMENSION
has been added to Restau-
rant Duglass on Southfield,
north of 12 Mile in the Far-
rell Plaza . Friday and
Saturday nights, 10:30 to 1
a.m. . . and a very good one,
too.
Backed by piano and bass
is cute, talented Liz
Lachman, daughter of
Adeline and Phil Lachman •
... handling the vocals with
all the poise and heart-
rending confidence of an
"old pro" . . . while weaving
her cords in a mesh of
rhythm-and-blues delight-
ful togetherness.
Liz has made overly-giant
strides since the days a
couple of years ago when
she "sang for dancing" over
the hubbub at Hurley's .. .
The ability to express her-
self with feeling comes with
time and an opportunity
such as Chef Duglass' fine
restaurant presents.
Easily bubbling with a
soft range that vocalizes
the blues in a wide
variety of tonal effect, Liz
captivates her audience
with warmth of personal-
ity while offering intona-
tions that bring eager
applause.
There is little limit to her
repertoire , .. age is no bar-
rier . . . from "My Buddy" of
1918 through 30's, 40's, 50's
and 60's hits like "More
Than You Know," "Cry Me
A River," "Don't Take Your
Love From Me," "You've
Changed" and even "Bye
Bye Blackbird" among so
many other melodies.
Liz's voice has a distinct
character ... and her use of
ne and hands
the micropho
are among indicative feel-
ings with which she seem-
ingly paints a beautiful
vocal picture for her audi-
ence.
Liz Lachman has quality
. . . the kind you won't want
to miss.
ERRATA . . Name of
that swell waiter I had re-
cently at Sultan's Table,
Southfield and 10 Mile, is
Mike Szpulak . . . Forgot to
mention the smiling, per-
sonality gal hostess Mary
Ann Hayosh . . . always
pleasant and vibrantly
cheerful.
LOONEY LAWS con-
tinue to crop up . . . Athens,
Ill., has a law which makes
it illegal to sell any bever-
age; including milk, tea or
coffee, unless the seller
has paid a license fee .. .
In Hammond, Ind.,
watermelon eaters are for-
bidden to throw seeds on the
sidewalk . . . and down

south in New Orleans, any-
one leaving watermelon
rind in a public.place "shall
be jailed" . . . Kansas state
law forbids one,to serve ice
cream or cherry pie on Sun-
days . . . In Baltimore, Md.,
"only pure, unadulterated,
unsophisticated and whole-
sorne milk may be sold" .. .
According to a state housing
act, California law makes it
illegal to sleep in the
kitchen but all right to do
your cooking in the bed-
room.
BACK IN 1926, Rialto
Cafe on Woodward. and
Nine Mile was one of the
oldest restaurants in
Michigan . . . Ted's in
Bloomfield Hills (now
closed) was a little Coney Is-
land stand, and with Rialto,
the only two places to eat on
Woodward from Highland
Park to Pontiac . . . This info
comes from former Rialto
owner Alex Kelingos, whose
birthday present owners
Charlie and Frank Pappas
will celebrate . . . The two
brothers have done an ex-
cellent job at Rialto since
taking over in 1960.
WITHIN A SPACE of
five weeks, the two
brother-owners of Vienna
Sausage Mfg. Co. in
Chicago have passed on .. .
