Bar-Ilan Is Planning Growth

RAMAT GAN, Israel —
Marking his second year as
head of Bar-Ilan Univer-
sity, Prof. Emanuel
Rackman declared two
'major goals in 1979 for Is-
rael's only religious-
oriented university: the ex-
pansion of physical
facilities and increase in the
numbers of foreign students
on campus.
Rackman said the 32-
year-old university con-
tains the smallest per capita
portion of building space to
students of any Israeli uni-
versity.
He said Bar-Ilan plans
two dormitory buildings for

500 students; a new
synagogue-classroom build-
ing; a $10 million school of
Judaic studies, a building
for environmental biology
and a new facility for the
School of Economics and
Business Administration.
Overseas contributions
have risen by 50 percent
during the past year to
reach $3.4 million while
major support from Israeli
industry, alumni and
families is now emerging
with local contributions tri-
pled during the past year to
comprise a growingly im-
portant Segment of the uni-
versity budget.
