Political Isolation TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Haaretz political writer Amnon Barzilai says former Premier Yitzhak Rabin is in political isolation within the Labor Party. Rabin, a member of the Knesset, is excluded from major decision-making meetings within the party. Barzilai says Rabin may break the "truce" soon when he publishes parts of his autobiography critical of Labor Party leader Shimon Peres. Attacks Increase, Israelis Seek Security TEL AVIV (JTA)—One person was killed and nine were injured in a Katyusha rocket attack on the border town of Kiryat Shmona last week by terrorists in south Lebanon. The dead man was identified as David Mar- ciano, a young security guard from Safed who was on duty in Kiryat Shmona. The injured included an el- derly woman and four chil- dren. The attack on Kiryat Shmona was the first since Israeli forces withdrew from south Lebanon last June and were replaced by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). A report from Beirut said the Palestine Liberation Organization claimed re- sponsibility for the attack which it said was in retalia- tion for the Israel Air Force strike on terrorist bases and training centers in south Lebanon. Premier Menahem Begin told reporters at a Foreign Press Associa- tion luncheon in Jerusalem that the air strike was a legitimate act of self-defense in the aftermath of a new wave of terrorist attacks on civilians in Israel, three of them in Jerusalem last week alone. The teachers agreed to accept the committee's findings — yet to be formulated — but the government insisted on the right to reject them if they exceeded the wage ceil- ings for public employees. Begin's promise, made to teachers representatives, was a compromise. While the cabinet will still be free to turn down the commit- tee's recommendations, Be- gin's pledge to support them made their acceptance more likely. High schools will remain open through the Hanuka holiday and most of the Passover recess in April to make up for the lost time. The federal district court for the northern district of Illinois issued the order in response to a complaint from the American Jewish Congress. Joseph Minsky, president of the AJCongress Council of Greater Chicago, said that during the trial of Frank Walus, an accused Nazi war criminal, a number of Orthodox Jews were prevented by a mars- hal from entering Judge Julius Hoffman's courtroom because they were wearing skullcaps . volunteer at Kibutz Mis-. hmar .Hasharon. Earlier, four Arabs and two Jews were injured when a bomb exploded outside an Arab- owned butcher's shop near Jaffa Gate, and 22 persons were injured when a bomb exploded on a bus in the predominantly Orthodox suburb of Bayit Vegan. The bus bombing has aroused angry demands for protection by the residents of Bayit Vegan. The route, one of the longest in the city, has been a frequent target of terrorist bombs. The residents of Bayit Vegan are demanding that the buses be stopped after leaving East Jerusalem to be searched for explo- sives before continuing through Jewish neighborhoods. Begin appointed his close associate, Minister- Without-Portfolio Haim Landau, to study the prob- lems of the No. 12 route in cooperation with Mayor Teddy Kollek, other munic- ipal officials and represen- tatives of the Egged bus cooperative. It was reported that Landau is opposed to splitting the route but favors the establishment of an alternative bus route that would operate only within western Jerusalem. in The Jewish News order a subscription or gift subscription today! r The - - Jewish - - - News - - - - - - - - - _ - - sal I I 17515 W. 9 Mile Rd., Suite 865 I I I 1 Southfield, Mich. 48075 1 1 .
