THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Nazi Ideology Reported Alive in Latin America: Rabbi CHICAGO (JTA) — Nazi ideology is alive and com- peting in the marketplace of ideas in Latin America, Rabbi Morton M. Rosenthal told a_ Midwest regional meeting of the Anti- Defamation League of Bnai Brith. Rabbi Rosenthal, who heads the ADL's Latin American affairs depart- ment, has just returned from a visit to Brazil, Bolivia, Peru and Ven- ezuela. Although hopeful that democracy will gain strength in Latin America, Rabbi Rosenthal asserted that the Nazi war criminals who found haven in the region and their supporters pose a continuing threat to efforts to re - establish democracy in the Southern Hemisphere. He expressed his concern that if the German govern- ment permits the statute of limitations on war crimes to expire at the end of 1979, the Nazis who have found Abe Cherow, Says: frappy, joyous and festive cll.:. and .../141:1. eLTOCV and family ' ARTISTIC UPHOLSTERERS INC. 5755 SCHAEFER RD. Speaking of the former commander of the Sobibor concentration camp, Gustav Franz Wagner, Rabbi Rosent- hal expressed optimism that the Supreme Court of Brazil would grant the German government's request for his extradi- tion. Wagner, who has lived in Sao Paulo since fleeing Germany, was arrested ear- lier this year after a Nazi meeting outside Rio de Janeiro. Rabbi Rosenthal told the group that the most vexing problem with which the ADL's Latin American af- fairs department is now con- fronted is that of political prisoners in Argentina and those who have disappeared in that country. Relatives and friends of Jews in Argentina have been appealing to ADL for help in locating the disap- peared and securing the re- lease of those detained without charges. More than 1,000 such cases have been regis- tered with the ADL. Rabbi Rosenthal indi- cated that the problems of disappearances and political detentions are affecting all segments of the Argentine society and are not specifically Jewish problems. The leading human rights group in .Argentina (The Permanent Assembly COLPA Suit Aids Observant on Human Rights) has submitted to the govern- ment more than 3,000 names of documented cases of disappeared persons, he said. Newspaper adver- tisements appear with some frequency requesting that the government explain the disappearance of specifi- cally named Argentine citi- zens. The Savin 770 plain paper copier is the most reliable machine on the market. It's practically jam proof. That's because of our simple paper path. The shorter the distance travelled, the less chance for jam ups. Our copies move a mere twelve inches from beginning to end. In some Xerox machines a copy is forced to twist and turn over four feet, very often ending up in the middle. Another reason so many people switch off Xerox and on to Sevin is the copy itself. Ours are always clear, clean and needle sharp, regardless of the original, whether you copy on to one side or two. That's because the Savin 770 has a mind. An electronic brain reads every original first and makes whatever adjustments are necessary to give perfect copies every time. =to BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION 398-7900 WELCOR INCORPORATED 21760 Coolidge Highway Oak Park, MI 48237 SALES: (313) 398-7900 t0Sajin. and Savin logotype are registered trademarks of Sevin Business Machines Corporation. JERUSALEM (ZINS) — Members of the Knesset who recently visited Russia report that Russian officials seem resigned to a peace be- tween Israel and Egypt based on the Camp David accords. Soviet officials also prom- ised they would not oppose Israeli participation and attendance at the 1980 Olympic Games. But MK Yosef Sand said the Russians also told the delegation that 98 percent of those who ask to emigrate from Russia are allowed to do so and only those exposed to state secrets are denied visas.
