Temple Leaders' Parley in Jerusalem
An Occasion for Israel Bonds Citation

JERUSALEM—A salute
to members of the National
Association of Temple Ad-
ministrators "in recognition
of support for Israel Bonds
by Reform temples
throughout the United
States and Canada," high-
lighted the association's
38th annual workshop con-
vention in Jerusalem.
In presenting the award,
the Speaker of Israel's
Knesset, Itzhak Shamir,
told association members
that "anyone who does
something for Jewish in-
stitutions anywhere in the
world, is contributing to Is-
rael's success and advance-
ment."

The award, a 30th an-
niversary testimonial
plaque, was presented
during the association's
tour of the Knesset, Is-
rael's Parliament, and
singled out association
members "for loyal serv-
ice to the synagogue and
ceaseless dedication to
the strengthening of the
economy of the state of
Israel through the Israel
Bond program."
Accepting the award on
behalf of the NATA was
Walter Baron, association
president, and adminis-
trator of Temple Israel,
Minneapolis, who pledged
continued dedication by

temple
administrators
throughout the United
States and Canada, to the
Israel Bond effort.
Frank K. Simons, ad-
ministrator of Detroit's
Temple Israel and a past
president of NATA, was
chairman of convention ar-
rangements and program.
During their nine-day
visit to Israel, convention
delegates were briefed by
Rabbi Richard G. Hirsch,
director of the World Union
of Progressive Judaism, and
were guests at Sabbath
services at the HUC-JIR
Center in Jerusalem and at
the Kedem Synagogue in
Tel Aviv.

NEW YORK — New

will be highlighted at the
Israel Jewelry and Giftware
Fair to be held at the Tel
Aviv Hilton April 22-25.

Frank L. Simons, left, administrator of Detroit's
Temple Israel, shares a moment of relaxed good
humor with Itzhak Shamir, speaker of Israel's Knes-
set, during the recent contention in Israel of the Na-
tional Association of Temple Administrators, of
which Simons is a past president.

U.S. Raps Resolve on Implied
UN Financial Aid to PLO

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
The United States said that
it "strongly opposes" the
resolution approved by the
Economic and Financial
Committee of the United
Nations General Assembly
that implied financial sup-
port for the Palestine Liber-
ation Organization.
"We see it as an effort to
use UN- assistance pro-
grams for the political bene-
fit of the PLO," the State
Department's • chief
spokesman, Hodding Car-
ter, said.
"While we support assis-
tance to the Palestinian
people through the United
Nations Relief and Works
Agency (UNRWA) and
other UN programs, we be-

lieve that any effort to twist
these programs for partisan
aims undermines support
for them," Carter added.
The resolution was ap-
proved by the committee
by a vote of 93-5 with 33
abstentions, including
the nine member states of
the European Economic
Community (EEC).
The five opposing votes
were cast by the U.S., Israel,
Australia, Canada and
Malawi. The resolution re-
quires the United Nations
Development Program
(UNDP) to render assis-
tance and cooperation to the
PLO in carrying out projects
to improve the social and
economic conditions of the
Palestinians.
