THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Israel Air Strikes in Lebanon in Retaliation for Bombings JERUSALEM. (JTA) — Israel Air Force planes at- tacked terrorist bases in South Lebanon Wednesday and returned safely to their bases, a military spokes- man announced. The at- tacks were in retaliation for a rash of terrorist bombings in Israel,- the most recent being an explosion Tuesday in East Jerusalem which in- jured four Arabs and two Jews. The spokesman said the air strike was aimed at ter- rorist bases and training camps in the Dahar El Burj, Kassmiyeh and Burj El- shimali regions of South Lebanon. The bases were described by Israel as spring-boards for terrorist assaults against Israeli civi- lians. The air attack lasted 15 minutes, the spokesman said. Fas- ter than a speeding Super- man, with more courage than an Israeli Sabra and having the faith of Ab- raham. Uri Fink, a 15-year-old native of Tel Aviv, has created Israel's first super- hero cartoon character. The first Sabraman comic book is being distributed in Israeli schools and sold on newsstands. Sabraman is described as the son of Polish victims of the Nazis who fought in the 1 967 and 1973 wars. A member of the Israel police force, he is asked to fight crime wherever it appears. Fink's publisher, how- ever, says the Sabraman will not fight terrorists, in deference to Israel's Arab students. - Israeli Bank Overcomes Issue Over Interest NEW YORK (JTA) — UMB Bank and Trust Com- pany, a subsidiary of Is- rael's fourth largest bank, United Mizrahi Bank, has managed to cope with sev- eral problems unique to a bank which follows Or- thodox Jewish principles. Jewish law, for instance, specifies that "usury" (interest) may not be charged on loans. But with- out interest, a bank cannot survive financially. So UMB had to sign a Hebrew document that provides a dispensation from the Jewish usury laws. The document, signed in New York, is now displayed in the UMB's Rockefeller Center offices. Another problem, said Moshe Krausz, UMB's president, is that the bank is closed on Jewish holidays. Yet, the bank has almost $30 million in assets. _11401,9 fiE L19/ L _Sting , go, y (You. oqnzi c4/cti2pi1zz fiE (WfiCZE TEC:a fi'L01.1.9fi Northland Greenfield at Eight Mile Road. 9-.2 ..........
