SMALL BEQUESTS
BUILD A
STRONG ISRAEL

If the tradition of including the Jewish
National Fund in the Will of every Jew were
invariably followed, sufficient resources would
be accumulated to ensure the future of the
young Jewish State on a sound basis of land
development, social welfare, and justice.

.

A bequest to the Jewish National Fund
should betas traditional as having a Blue Box
in one's home.

You may want your bequest to be
dedicated to afforestation, to a village, a
NaChlah, to a children's play area, to perpetual
yahrzeit or kaddish, or to some form of
-permanent tribute in the nam es of persons
dear to you.

Consult the Foundation for Jewish
National Fund, 27308 Southfield Rd.,

working out plans to meet your special

Holocaust Exhibit Has Impact
on. NY High School Students

By BEN GALLOB

(Copyright 1978, JTA, Inc.)

More than 2,600 New
York City high school stu-
dents visited the Jewish
Museum in Manhattan this
year to participate in an ex-
perimental two-hour pro-
gram on the Holocaust
which, for many of the black
visitors, was the first expb-
sure to the fact of the mass
murder of European Jews,
according to a museum offi-
cial.
The participatory pro-
gram at the museum, which
is sponsored by the Jewish
Theological Seminary of
America, was centered on a
collection of paintings and
drawings created by
Holocaust survivors who es-
tablished their own kibutz
in Israel.
The Holocaust Education
Program was geared to a
museum exhibit of the
artwork, "Spiritual Resis-
tance: Art From Concentra-
tion Camps, 1940-45." The
artwork was on loan from
Kibutz Lochamei Haghet-
toat, according to a
brochure for the education
program prepared by the
Anti-Defamation League of
Bnai Brith.

HANK YOU . . . Bob, Alan, Brian & Jackie

The exhibit, sponsored
by the Union of American
Hebrew Congregations,
is traveling to other
American museums, ac-
cording to Janice Rous,
the 28-year-old education
director at the museum,
who developed the
Holocaust education
program.
Mrs. Rous said the impact
of the horror of the artwork
content was reduced by
focusing on spiritual resis-
tance — the courage,
stamina and psychological
problems the Holocaust ar-
tists faced daily.
She said many of the
non-Jewish youngsters,
mainly black and Puerto
Rican, had never heard
about the Holocaust but
they recognized the histori-
cal impact and importance
of the period of genocide —
some of the black students
related it to their own his-
tory — and expressed em-
pathy for the Jewish people.
She said the reaction on
the part of the black stu-
dents was considered par-
ticularly encouraging, in
many cases demonstrating
a new understanding and
awareness which she said
"hopefully" might make
some dent in the problems of
anti-Semitism among
blacks.
She quoted a black
student as saying, "I
never thought I could
come to the -Jewish
Museum. I thought I'd
feel left out but now I
could take anyone here
and give them the same
personal experience .I
had."
Another student was
quoted as saying, "You
know, I feel sorry for these
people" — the Germans —
"they had to hate. I hope the
Jews don't hate. I hope they
learned from them."
One student reported se-
eing both "Roots," a highly
detailed semi-documentary
on the tribulations of blacks
through the centuries, and
"Holocaust" the semi-
documentary on the murder
of European Jews, both of
which attracted huge audi-
ences on commercial • TV
networks.
That student said that,
after "I saw 'Roots,' I hated
white people but then I saw
`Holocaust' and I saw the
Jews had it even worse than
us. They wouldn't even let
you live."

Revenger Jailed

JERUSALEM (ZINS) —
A 43-year-old Israeli reser-
, vist was sentenced to 20
years in prison for murder-
ing an East Jerusalem Arab
as an act of revenge for the
slaying of an Israeli soldier.
The Arab was killed at
the same spot where the
Jewish soldier was killed.

America has a higher rate
of infant deaths than, l5
other countries, says the
March of Dimes. One of the
reasons may be our nation's
incidence of low birth-
weight.
