Julian Tobias, right, of Southfield is congratu-
lated by Wayne State University President Thomas N.
Bonner at WSU Commencement Exercises held Dec.
12 in Cobo Hall. Tobias, a CPA, was honored with a
Distinguished Service Award for "outstanding serv-
ice, generosity and leadership to his community and
university." A community leader and WSU supporter,
Tobias has been active in the Jewish Community Cen-
ter, the Midrasha College of Jewish Studies and the
Jewish Welfare Federation. He has served as trustee,
treasurer, vice president and president of Temple Is-
rael of Detroit and is president of the Wayne State
Fund for a third term.

NEW YORK — The
Jewish Association for
Services for :the Aged has
acquired a five-story mid-
town Manhattan building
for use for community serv-
ices, education and cultural
programs for the elderly.
The building was pur-
chased for $900,000 from
Hebrew Union College-
Jewish Institute of Religion
which is moving to new
quarters on the New York.
University campus next
fall.
